Summary: ย 

The Commercial Banking Officer is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of commercial banking customers. Originating, examining, authorizing or recommending for approval commercial loan requests. Providing solutions to relationships such as, but not limited to lending, depository and cash management services, merchant processing, and retail solutions. Active team player within the Bank, while being customer and community oriented and has an interest in promoting the Bank and its products and services.ย 


Essential Duties: ย 

  • ย Originate, underwrite and close commercial loans for existing and new customers of the Bank in adherence to Chelsea State Bank policy, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor existing loan portfolio to ensure high credit quality, handle renewals, mitigate risks, including monitoring past-due accounts.ย 
  • Monitor and enforce collection activities on past due loans and develop work out plan with credit team and leadership.
  • Work with outside professionals as needed to evaluate loan closings, such as attorneys, accountants, appraisers, etc.
  • Foster new business by actively calling on prospects and customers for commercial loans and other banking solutions, including depository and cash management solutions to establish a primary banking relationship between the customer and Bank.
  • Maintain an active presence in the community by attending social events, volunteering for Bank and local nonprofit organizations and participating in other community focused activities.
  • Comply with all bank policies, regulations and laws applicable to carrying out duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure Bank operates efficiently.ย 

Requirements

Education and Experience: ย 

  • Bachelor's degree required. Degree in business, finance or management preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial lending experience or 10+ years combined experience in originating, underwriting and servicing all types of commercial loans including, lines of credit, term loans and real estate loan transactions.
  • Familiarity with structuring, underwriting, servicing and closing all loan types, including but not limited to asset based/borrowing based lines of credit, real estate loans, equipment loans.
  • Familiar with SBA and other governmental guaranty programs.

Other Skills and Abilities:ย 

  • Attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy and the ability to multi-task are essential to this position, as well as an understanding of accounting concepts. Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening) and desire to problem solve are key. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
  • The position requires creativity and sales techniques as well as sound judgement in lending decisions, while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality on Bank accounts and the services offered.
  • The Banker must be self-motivated, enjoy people and be willing and eager to interact pleasantly with customers and teammates alike. They must understand the team concept and be able to function independently and as a member of a team working towards common goals.
  • The position may require extended hours from time to time to complete timely loan requests. Other duties may be assigned to ensure the Bank operates efficiently.ย
