Job Summary:
Medical Technologist I - Blood Bank is responsible for performing complex laboratory testing and analysis of blood and blood products to ensure safe transfusion practices. This role includes processing specimens, preparing reagents, validating test results, and maintaining accurate documentation. The technologist will also troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment, act as a resource for other lab personnel, and collaborate with physicians and healthcare staff to deliver high-quality patient care in a hospital setting.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative testing on blood specimens and blood products.
  • Conduct compatibility testing and antibody identification to ensure safe transfusion.
  • Prepare and validate reagents, solutions, and materials used in blood bank testing.
  • Review and report laboratory results with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot blood bank instrumentation and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing.
  • Provide guidance and support to other laboratory personnel.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff to support patient care.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent (including military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489).
  • Registered or registry eligible with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS within 12 months of hire).
  • Prefer 6 months to 1 year of experience in blood bank or transfusion services in an acute care facility.
  • Equivalency evaluation required for non-US trained personnel (ECE, NACES, or AICE within 30 days of hire).
  • Licensure as required by the State.

  • Strong analytical ability to interpret and analyze blood bank test results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with physicians and staff.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate laboratory equipment and closely examine specimens.
