Job Description

U.S. Bank is seeking a strategic and visionary infrastructure leader with deep experience in high-availability, fault-tolerant computing environments that support mission-critical business services. The ideal candidate will bring a strong track record of driving platform strategy, operational excellence, modernization, resiliency, and engineering leadership across enterprise-class systems. This role will serve as the platform leader for core infrastructure environments, ensuring exceptional availability, security, performance, and long-term technology sustainability.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the strategic roadmap for HP NonStop (Tandem) and Stratus platforms.

  • Develop long-term hardware, software, resiliency, and modernization strategies aligned with business objectives.

  • Establish platform standards, engineering practices, governance processes, and operational controls.

  • Ensure continuous availability, performance, recoverability, and resiliency for all supported environments.

  • Lead production operations, incident management, problem management, and root-cause analysis activities.

  • Oversee infrastructure lifecycle programs, including hardware refreshes, operating system upgrades, capacity expansions, and technology currency initiatives.

  • Manage software maintenance, patching, vendor advisories, and security remediation activities.

  • Lead capacity forecasting, performance analytics, and utilization planning to support current and future business demand.

  • Present platform health metrics, risk assessments, capacity plans, and investment recommendations to senior leadership.

  • Ensure platform compliance with enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements, audit controls, and risk management frameworks.

  • Lead business continuity, disaster recovery, resiliency testing, and recovery validation exercises.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through automation, operational efficiencies, and reliability engineering practices.

  • Manage strategic vendor relationships, technology investments, support agreements, and maintenance contracts.

  • Develop and manage platform budgets, including hardware, software, labor, and project expenditures.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop teams of engineers, systems programmers, and technical specialists.

  • Establish workforce development, succession planning, technical training, and knowledge transfer programs.

  • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives with infrastructure, networking, application development, cybersecurity, and operations teams.

  • Provide executive-level communication regarding platform performance, risks, incidents, and strategic initiatives.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in business, MIS, engineering, computer science, mathematics, any science, or equivalent work experience

- 10 or more years of experience in delivering software-based solutions/supporting mission-critical enterprise infrastructure environments.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Expertise in one or more of the following: HP NonStop (Tandem), Stratus Platforms, PSeries/AIX, IBM Z (Mainframe), or highly resilient based Linux/x86, including architecture, administration, performance optimization, resiliency, and lifecycle management.
  • Strategic Infrastructure Leadership with the ability to define and execute platform roadmaps, modernization strategies, and long-term technology investments aligned to business objectives.
  • High Availability & Fault-Tolerant Systems Expertise supporting mission-critical environments with stringent uptime, reliability, resiliency, and performance requirements.
  • Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity & Resilience Planning experience designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise recovery capabilities and operational readiness programs.
  • Infrastructure Performance Engineering & Capacity Planning leveraging monitoring tools, operational analytics, forecasting methodologies, and trend analysis to drive platform optimization.
  • Technology Lifecycle & Modernization Management including hardware refreshes, software upgrades, platform migrations, capacity expansion initiatives, and technical debt reduction strategies.
  • IT Service Management (ITSM) & Operational Excellence with deep knowledge of incident, change, problem, risk, and operational management frameworks in 24x7 production environments.
  • Infrastructure Security, Regulatory Compliance & Audit Management ensuring adherence to enterprise security standards, governance requirements, regulatory controls, and audit readiness.
  • Executive Communication & Stakeholder Influence with proven ability to lead major incident communications, present technology strategy to senior leadership, and drive cross-functional decision-making.
  • Engineering Leadership, Vendor Management & Financial Stewardship including leading highly specialized engineering teams, managing strategic technology partnerships, budget planning, investment prioritization, and cost optimization.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $149,515.00 - $175,900.00
