Job Purpose & Scope

Manages a pipeline of moderately complex valuation projects across all property types.  In this role, you will scope valuation projects, engage external appraisers, and review appraisal reports to ensure our originations and special asset management teams have credible valuation reports and reliable collateral values for decision-making purposes.   


Essential Job Functions
  1. Communicates with originations and credit personnel to understand the financing request and collateral property characteristics for appraisal scoping purposes.
  2. Consults with first line personnel and develops solutions to appraisal problems.

  3. Identifies qualified professionals from the appraiser panel to bid, award, and track appraisal projects through the Real Estate Information Management System (RIMS).

  4. Manages the appraiser engagement process and collaborates with the commercial appraisal coordinator to ensure contracted appraisers have received all required property information.

  5. Performs reviews on moderately complex appraisal projects to determine the credibility of the appraisal report and the reliability of the appraiser’s market value opinions.

  6. Completes or reviews property evaluations and validations as needed. 

  7. Ensures appraisal reports comply with internal policies and procedures, engagement letter terms, and federal and state regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, USPAP and FIRREA.

  8. Gathers and analyzes market data and trends that are relevant to appraisal engagements.

  9. Provides insight and technical interpretations of real estate market conditions and appraisal theory to commercial real estate lending teams.

  10. Mentors first and second line personnel in Bank appraisal policies, procedures, and practices.

  11. Exercises discretion and judgment in the performance of essential job functions.

  12. Maintains good punctuality and attendance to work.

  13. Follows Bank policy, procedures, and guidelines.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  1. Knowledge of commercial real estate appraisal standards and requirements applicable to federally regulated real estate transactions.
  2. Knowledge of trending appraisal methods and appraisal review theory.

  3. Knowledge of RIMS.

  4. Ability to use a commercial appraisal management platform to manage your project pipeline.

  5. Ability to use Argus.

  6. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  7. Ability to think critically and consistently demonstrate good organizational skills.

  8. Ability to demonstrate analytical skills including discounted cash flow analysis.

  9. Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.

  10. Ability to work effectively and demonstrate flexibility in a continually changing environment.

  11. Ability to manage multiple tasks with exacting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  12. Ability to maintain attention to detail.

  13. Skill in computer and Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat software.


Basic Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or commensurate work experience, required.
  2. Bachelor’s degree, preferred.

  3. Minimum of four (4) years’ commercial real estate valuation work experience, required, commercial real estate appraisal review with a bank, preferred.

  4. State Certified General Appraiser designation, required.

  5. AI-GRS or MAI designation, preferred.

  6. Membership/designation in a professional appraisal association/society, preferred.
