OVERVIEW: • Provide music instruction on Band instruments for students from 4th- 8th-grades • Prepare for performances for Concert Band, Pep Band, and Marching Band throughout the school year • Develop and maintain Band Music Library • Inventory, repair and purchase instruments and related equipment for use in the Band program • Inventory, repair and purchase other equipment necessary for use in the Band program including chairs, music stands, sound equipment, uniforms, etc. • Engage in parent communication regarding performances and student progress
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Recruitment and instruction of Beginner Band 1- or 2- times each week after school. These are usually 4th-grade students, but older students without prior band experience may join and possibly move up to their grade level when skills are sufficiently developed.
• Provide instruction for Cadet Band 1- time each week after school. These are 5th- and 6th-grade students with previous Band experience
• Provide graded instruction for 7th-and 8th Advanced Band 3 days each week during the school day. This is a combined 7th and 8th grade class consisting of experienced Band members as well as 7th grade beginners who wish to try out band. This class takes the place of General Music at the Junior High level and is a graded course.
• Perform at various functions and concerts including the Halloween Parade, Welcome Santa Parade, Christmas Concert, Christmas Eve 4PM Mass, St. Patrick's Day Parade, Spring Concert and other Pep Band performances as per school schedule allows. These students have also performed at the Academy of Culture and Arts recitals as soloists or small ensemble groups.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: • K-12 Music certification • Band experience as a long-term (through college-level) student or director • Strong communication and organizational skills
