Nurse - RN / LPN

Kansas Renewal Institute LLC

Fort Scott, KS • On-site

$24 - $32.75/hr

Full-time

Re-posted 7 days ago

Job description

About Us:
At Kansas Renewal Institute, we pride ourselves on providing compassionate, consistent care for those who need it most. As a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF), our mission is to support healing, growth, and hope for the individuals we serve—and that includes creating a safe, stable environment where both physical and emotional health are priorities.

We specialize in trauma-informed care for pre-adolescents and adolescents, which means we know things can get loud, unpredictable, and intense—but we also know how powerful the right team can be. If you can keep your cool, juggle meds and moods, and provide care with both compassion and clinical excellence, we want you on our team.

The Role:
We’re looking for a Registered Nurse who’s equal parts calm under pressure, detail-obsessed, and kid-savvy. You’ll work closely with therapists, behavioral health staff, and leadership to support the medical needs of youth navigating serious emotional and psychiatric challenges. You’ll monitor, assess, educate, and medicate—sometimes all before lunch.

This is a night position working 7p - 7a.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer medications accurately and on schedule (aka keep the chaos medicated responsibly)
  • Monitor the health and well-being of residents and respond to changes or crises
  • Perform assessments, triage situations, and communicate with the treatment team
  • Provide health education to residents in ways that actually make sense to a 13-year-old
  • Complete documentation like a pro, because if it’s not charted… you know the saying
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and guardians to coordinate care
  • Maintain medical supplies, stay cool in emergencies, and never underestimate the power of a Band-Aid

Requirements:

  • Current RN / LPN license in Kansas or compact license
  • Experience in psychiatric, pediatric, or residential nursing preferred
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and how it applies to youth
  • Excellent assessment skills and the ability to stay focused when things get unpredictable
  • Clear, compassionate communication skills with kids, coworkers, and caregivers
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, or evenings if needed (we’re a 24/7 facility, after all)
  • Bonus points if you’ve ever had to coax a teen into taking meds with Gatorade and a motivational speech

Perks:

  • Join a team that truly values what you bring to the table (and the med cart)
  • Supportive coworkers, meaningful work, and a chance to make a real impact
  • Opportunities for training, growth, and the occasional calm shift (hey, it happens)
  • A sense of humor is practically part of the uniform—and yes, we have coffee

Nights: 7 pm - 7 am
