Job description

Job Title: Florida Complex Rehabilitation Coordinator
Description:
The Baltimore Orioles are seeking an individual to serve as the Florida Complex Rehabilitation Coordinator. This position will require daily interaction with field staff, team physicians, Major League Head Athletic Trainer, Minor League Medical Coordinator, affiliate athletic trainers, physical therapists, strength and performance coaches, mental skills/health coaches, and player development staff. The responsibilities will include time spent working in both Florida complex facilities, with the potential to travel to Baltimore, MD (Camden Yards), as needed. The Florida Complex Rehabilitation Coordinator will oversee the Florida-based minor league rehabilitation staff (Sr. Organizational PT, Minor League PTs) and provide rehabilitative care to injured athletes from both the Major League team and minor league affiliates in collaboration with the strength and performance staff and coaching staff. The individual will report to the Vice President of Player Health and Performance. This position is based in Sarasota, Florida, but the individual should be flexible about location.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that consistent rehab standards, philosophies, and processes are maintained and followed during a player's rehabilitative care.
  • Collaborate with the organization's Certified Athletic Trainers, team physicians, strength and performance coaches, mental skills coaches, sport scientists, dieticians, front office, and player development staff to create a player-centric approach around their rehabilitation.
  • Communicate injury and rehab updates to the Head Athletic Trainer, Minor League Medical Coordinator, International Medical Coordinator, front office, and player development leadership.
  • Help manage post-injury care for 40-man and non-40-man players receiving rehabilitative care in Sarasota, FL, during the season and off-season.
  • Assist with the continued development of Baltimore Orioles rehab philosophies and implementation across the organization.
  • Assist with injury prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of 40-man, non-40-Man, and DSL players while they are at the Sarasota, FL complex.
  • Maintain thorough and complete documentation of all injuries and illnesses, including daily treatment notes, physician notes, and other required documentation, to ensure completeness of each player's electronic medical record.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, and Sport Science staff to create objective measures for rehab and utilize these measures in progressing athlete care and determining readiness for return to play.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and clear and direct communication in high-stress situations.
  • Daily facility care duties, including, but not limited to, maintaining treatment area cleanliness and organization, ensuring the hydrotherapy area is adequately equipped and maintained.
  • Potential travel will include the following, but not limited to:
    • DR Academy for DSL long-term rehabs when necessary
    • Affiliate locations when necessary
    • Baltimore, MD, when necessary
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Licensed Physical Therapist (PT)

Desired:
  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)
  • Registered Strength & Conditioning Coach (RSCC)
  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
  • 5 years of professional or high-level experience
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish)
  • Flexibility with location

  • Upper extremity fellowship
  • MLB Internship Experience

Location and Hours:
  • Will split time between team complexes in Sarasota, FL (Twin Lakes and Ed Smith), the Dominican Republic, and Baltimore, MD (as directed).

Travel:
  • Travel is to be expected in this role.
