Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Background Screening Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will conduct and process background investigations in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), state regulations, and company policies. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality and responsiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct background screening investigations, including criminal record searches, employment verifications, education verifications, professional license checks, and other screening services.
- Review and analyze records obtained from courts, employers, educational institutions, and other sources to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing consumer reporting and background screening.
- Communicate professionally with applicants, clients, courts, employers, and educational institutions to obtain required information.
- Resolve discrepancies, incomplete records, and conflicting information through additional research and verification.
- Document findings accurately within company systems and maintain detailed records of all screening activities.
- Meet established productivity, quality, and turnaround time standards.
- Assist with adverse action processes and consumer disputes as required.
- Protect sensitive personal information and maintain strict confidentiality standards.
Qualifications
Required
- College degree.
- 1–3 years of experience in background screening, consumer reporting, verification services, investigations, compliance, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of confidentiality requirements and data security best practices.
Preferred
- Experience working for a Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA).
- Knowledge of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and related compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with court record research and public records databases.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
