Job description

Overview: The Irrigation Manager (IM) leads the irrigation process from estimate through handoff to maintenance. The IM leads crews and assures that all irrigation installations and designs meet and/or exceed the company expectations, through proper scheduling of materials, deliveries, crews, and coordination with softscape manager. Training and development of crew leaders is critical part of this role to continually improve quality and proficiency of crews.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and Estimate

    • Review potential jobs in estimating with estimator

    • Determine job specific requirements and client needs for the irrigation system and send out for design

    • Finalize design by making site specific and client adjustments. Provide adequate analysis of run times, gallons used per day/ week/ month, season etc.

    • Provide the estimating department with accurate bid information, materials, hours etc.

    • Review design and estimate with project manager before work begins on project

    • Project manager is responsible for obtaining and communicating required information to completing the job, before installation, i.e. job sequencing, well vs domestic supply, point of connection, power, clock location, clock type, special request, temp. irrigation, hose bibs, etc.

  • Ordering materials

    • Materials should be ordered specifically for each job, 1-2 weeks ahead

    • Commonly used parts should be stocked in trailer in yard.

  • Scheduling

    • Actively communicate with Operations Team to Schedule crews a minimum of 2 weeks out

    • Daily and weekly coordination with production manager to fine tune schedule

    • Changes/delays/concerns to schedule need to be communicated to production manager no later than 1pm daily

    • Every job should be visited prior to crew arrival. (Remote job site managers will need to submit pictures of current conditions to irrigation manager and production manager)

    • Review schedule and job sequencing with Lighting Manager. Pull pipes, mark sleeves, run wires as needed

    • Manager is responsible for the logistics of "splitting" crew as needed

    • Manager is required to allocate his time appropriately to fulfill all responsibilities

  • Installation

    • Responsible for proper installation of irrigation design, making "in-field" adjustments as necessary

    • Installations must meet all state and federal standards

    • Coordinate with project plumber for proper backflow connection

    • Ensure all materials and equipment are procured and delivered to site prior to starting job

    • Ensure crew and all crew members are productive and hours are within budget and captured in Aspire

    • Reporting projected hours (over/under) to PM and Production Manager during construction

  • As-Builts

    • Accurate as-builts and zone charts are required to be submitted to PM and Maintenance Team no later than 1 week of completion

    • As-builts should be completed in Adobe, Cad, Blue Beam, etc.

    • As-builts and zone charts to be provided to Account Manager and a site walk through is required

  • Handoff / Service / Follow up

    • Ensure proper system walkthrough and delivery to maintenance team upon conversion to Account Manager

    • Systems should be checked periodically, communicating with Account Managers, Project Managers, Production Managers to ensure the clock is programed as needed for a successful landscape

Safety: Enforce RP Marzilli's Safety Program and maintain a Clean Job Site. Promote a climate that emphasizes the importance of complying with all safety measures and requirements.

  • Proper use of PPE (Safety Glass, Ear Protection, Hard Hats, Gloves, Hi Vis Clothing).

  • Daily clean-up to prevent hazards and injuries.

  • Ensure all equipment is operated, maintained, and cleaned per best practices.

  • Confirm all personnel using any equipment are properly trained, supervised, and certified if required.

  • Understand RP Marzilli's reporting protocols and report accidents as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant design, installation and repair of complex irrigations systems

  • Working knowledge of industry best practices, system design and calculations

  • Demonstrated experience managing and building crews to install complex systems

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be able to use company software, Aspire, Smartsheet and Hydrawise

  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook and Project)

  • Ability to break down landscape construction operations into a logical sequence of activities

  • Ability to professionally communicate the basis for individual work product within a highly stressed environment

  • Ability and willingness to abide by policies daily

  • Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills mandatory

  • High attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies

Physical Requirements:

  • Strength, stamina and mobility to perform heavy physical work in all weather conditions.

  • Physical agility required to access all areas of properties and construction sites.

  • Assist in manual labor and lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Lift and place materials weighing up to pounds many times per day.
