LMI is seeking a skilled Forward Deployed Engineer in Oahu, Hawaii. It is preferred that candidates can work onsite (Schofield Barracks) in a hybrid format, but candidates interested in travel may apply. Successful Forward Deployed Engineers demonstrate the ability to integrate advanced technologies into operational workflows, build and deploy new software capabilities, and work closely with Soldiers and mission users to translate real-world needs into practical, scalable technical solutions. This position requires an active Secret clearance.

Providing direct support to the 25th Infantry Division, this Forward Deployed Engineer will: 

  • Collaborate closely with Soldiers to understand operational requirements and translate mission needs into technical solutions within the SHEPRD application.
  • Implement rapid updates, enhancements, and fixes to ensure the application aligns with real-world mission objectives and user feedback.
  • Test, deploy, and maintain new functionality and features, ensuring seamless integration with existing processes and systems.
  • Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshooting directly to operational users, both on-site and remotely.
  • Conduct training and mentoring sessions to empower Soldiers and other users to maximize their use and understanding of the application.
  • Participate in agile development practices, including sprint planning and stand-up meetings, to ensure continuous improvement and alignment of software capabilities with user requirements.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to streamline development workflows and leverage best practices for efficiency and scalability.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to address complex operational challenges.
  • Prepare and present documentation, demonstrations, and reports to stakeholders to showcase progress and application performance.
  • CONUS only travel occasionally to other 25th Infantry Division locations or associated mission sites to provide localized technical support as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Experience building modern web applications using JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Experience developing backend services using a server-side framework (e.g., Node.js or equivalent).
  • Experience working with relational databases, including schema design and query optimization.
  • Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs to support frontend applications and external data sources.
  • Experience deploying applications in containerized environments (e.g., Docker).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows supporting iterative software delivery.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate user needs into technical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with end users and stakeholders.
Desired Skills
  • Experience working directly with military personnel and/or federal agencies in operational environments.
  • Familiarity with Army software development processes, operational workflows, and mission systems.
  • Full-stack development experience using React for frontend development and js / Express for backend services.
  • Experience deploying service-based or microservices architectures in containerized environments (Kubernetes or EKS preferred).
  • Experience with cloud or government-hosted environments; AWS GovCloud or Azure Government preferred.
  • Understanding of Agile development practices (Scrum or Kanban) and participation in sprint ceremonies.
  • Experience improving operational decision-making systems based on user feedback, prioritization logic, or performance needs.
  • Security certifications such as Security+ or willingness to obtain within six months of hire.
