Primary Function
Under general supervision, forecasts and meets hourly district real-time electric power requirements; monitors power load conditions, conducts hourly analysis, develops trading strategies and determines the most economical power source alternatives; plans and schedules resources to meet demand load forecast; negotiates sale, purchases and interchanges of electricity and gas with other utilities, energy marketers, energy brokers and the California Independent System Operator (CAISO). Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, business, accounting, economics, or related degree and five years of increasingly responsible experience in power trading, trading analysis, power and natural gas settlements, finance or system operating functions in an electric utility or closely related industry, including two years of direct negotiating sale, purchases and interchanges of electricity with other utilities, energy marketers, energy brokers and the CAISO.
Progressively responsible directly related experience may be substituted for the required education at the ratio of two years of experience for one year of education required in power trading, trading analysis, power and natural gas settlements, finance or system operating functions in an electric utility or closely related industry, including two years of direct negotiating sale, purchases and interchanges of electricity with other utilities, energy marketers, energy brokers and the CAISO.
