Job description

Assistant Professor of Computer Science, contingent faculty, (55k salary), 12 credit hours of teaching. Ph.D. or MS with tested experience. Undergraduate focus with graduate student advising and departmental service activities.

SALARY: Minimum: $55,000

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Computer Science program offers a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Computer Science and an MA/MS in Computer and Innovation Sciences (MCIS). Computer facilities include several PC labs on campus and within the Computer Science department there are 2 PC labs of over 15 computers each (Windows/Linux). The department also has two high performance computer clusters and synergistic activities with Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, and Innovation Sciences.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY: New Mexico Highlands University, a state institution governed by an independent Board of Regents, is located in the historic community of Las Vegas, where the Sangre de Cristo Mountains meet the Great Plains. Las Vegas with a population of 15,000, is situated 65 miles northeast of Santa Fe in an area that offers year-round recreational opportunities, including skiing, backpacking and fishing along with numerous national historical sites within a few hours by car.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A preference will be given to those candidates with a expertise in one or more of the following areas: Machine Learning/AI, High Performance Computing, Network Programming, Network Security, Database Programming, Cybersecurity, and Data Structures/Algorithms. University experience with teaching both graduate/undergraduate courses is desirable. In addition to a commitment to teaching, applicants should demonstrate research and service activities, as well as excellent communication skills. Previous success in working with diverse student populations. Interest and/or experience implementing curricula and/or pedagogy in your discipline and restructuring current CS curricula as to align it with contemporary CS curricula. Previous success working with diverse student populations is desirable as well as previous experience interacting with multicultural communities.
