Job Title: Small Business Financial Readiness Advisor

Location: 253 36th Street, Unit 17 - Suite 4-C58, Brooklyn, NY 11232

Work Arrangement: In-Office - 40 hours per week/ occasional field work, and meetings with small businesses

Position Overview:

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is a borough-wide membership and economic development organization dedicated to helping businesses through promotion, support, advocacy, and its convening authority. Brooklyn Chamber and its affiliate organizations - Brooklyn Alliance and Brooklyn Alliance Capital - provide direct business services, technical assistance, and support programs to help businesses grow. We serve as the foremost resource for doing business in the borough and as a leader in advancing public policy that ensures a vibrant Brooklyn economy.

The Small Business Financial Readiness Advisor supports entrepreneurs and small business owners across Brooklyn in strengthening their financial health, improving their access to capital, and building long-term sustainability for their business. This role serves as a bridge between small business owners and the financial resources, lending partners, and funding opportunities they need. The Advisor will also provide hands-on coaching and financial assessments to help clients become capital ready. This role sits within the Brooklyn Alliance Capital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one financial coaching to small business owners, including budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning
  • Assess if small businesses are financial ready for loans, grants, and investment opportunities
  • Assist small businesses in preparing financial documents (profit & loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow projections)
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions on financial literacy and business finance topics to small business owners and staff
  • Guide small business owners to improve credit worthiness and understanding lending requirements
  • Connect small business owners with financial institutions, CDFIs, and grant programs
  • Collaborate with local partners, other chambers of commerce, and community-based organizations in Brooklyn
  • Stay updated on funding opportunities, regulations, and economic trends affecting small businesses

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2-5 years of experience in small business advising, financial coaching, or lending
  • Strong organizational and data tracking skills
  • Ability to simplify complex financial concepts for non-financial audiences; knowledge of loan programs and financial products helpful
  • Familiarity with NYC small business ecosystem is required
  • Experience in developing and executing financial workshops for small businesses is required
  • Experience in reviewing small business financial statements and lending processes is required
  • Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, or other common languages in Brooklyn is preferred

Compensation

  • Salary: $75,000 - $80,000
