Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant / Manufacturing Cost Accountant to support manufacturing operations through advanced cost analysis, inventory management, financial reporting, and compliance activities. This role will analyze production costs, monitor inventory levels, investigate variances, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes and improve cost efficiency. The position also performs specialized accounting activities to ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, regulatory requirements, and financial reporting obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Month-End Close process by ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled in a timely manner.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and assist with financial reporting activities.
  • Conduct detailed production cost analysis for direct materials, labor, and manufacturing overhead to ensure cost accuracy and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Supervise and monitor inventory levels, track inventory usage, reconcile discrepancies, and support accurate inventory valuation while minimizing waste and shortages.
  • Prepare and present manufacturing cost reports with insights and recommendations to support management decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements related to cost accounting activities.
  • Support internal and external audits by responding to audit requests with accurate and complete documentation.
  • Perform variance analysis by monitoring actual costs against budgeted targets, investigating discrepancies, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production, procurement, finance, and other cross-functional teams to streamline processes and improve operational and cost efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing cost control, inventory accuracy, and financial process optimization.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting or manufacturing cost accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting, cost accounting principles, and best practices.
  • Ability to apply advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to complex financial and operational data.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, preferably QAD or Oracle Hyperion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis, reporting, modeling, and data presentation.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, production costing, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Understanding of internal controls, regulatory compliance, and audit support processes.
  • Demonstrated project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in environments with ambiguity and complexity.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to function as an effective finance business partner.
