JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Sr R&D Engineer to join our growing team.
External Job Description
PURPOSE OF ROLE
The Senior R&D Engineer will lead the design, development, and validation of innovative window systems and components for commercial applications. This role is critical to advancing product performance, manufacturability, and compliance with industry standards. The engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, operations, quality, and product management teams to deliver robust solutions aligned with strategic business goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively support and participate in the company's safety and health and quality programs.
  • New Product Development (NPD)/Continuous Improvement (CI)
    • Lead design and development of new products and processes
    • Manage project or project components to completion within a specified timeline and budget
    • Provide time and cost estimates based on project scope and requirements
    • Create models, drawings, charts, graphs, or other tools to clearly communicate specifications to other functional groups
    • Work with outside vendors to develop parts and/or equipment on time and within budget
    • Develops and carries out test plans and experiments to validate product/process design and performance.
  • Field testing and troubleshooting support as necessary

SCHEDULING
  • This position is regularly scheduled to work 5 days per week / 8 hours per day (8:00am - 4:30pm). Overtime may be required.
  • Travel as required
    • 5-10% travel per month is typical

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS Engineering degree in a related field with 10+ years of manufacturing or design experience.
  • Minimum of 1 years' experience using 3-D modeling software (Solid Works or Autodesk Inventor experience is required)
  • Knowledge and application of basic problem-solving skills and engineering skills (math, science, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Must possess the ability to learn quickly, be self-motivated and work well independently.
  • Must be innovative and creative with high 3D mechanical spatial visualization skills.
  • Ability to use hand tools and cutting tools as well as larger equipment such as an automatic saw and vinyl welder (can be trained).
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound design judgment and technical knowledge in a professional manner.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal abilities and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Must enjoy working with your hands.
  • Must show strong attention to detail.
