Job description

JOB SUMMARY

We are searching for an ambitious Retail Store Clerk to provide value to R and M Enterprises, Inc. through assisting in-store customers browsing inventory or checking out items. The duties of a Retail Clerk include welcoming customers to the store, answering questions about products, receiving, stocking and counting inventory, maintaining a clean store, using a cash register to process purchases and thanking customers for shopping at Joe Blows. This is a new store, which provides the opportunity to build from the ground up. Additionally, the Retail Store Clerk will contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results completing special projects and tasks delegated by supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Customer Service

a. Greeting, interacting and monitoring customers to help the store in loss prevention

b. Provide excellent customer service answering questions and providing product insight

c. Assisting customers with the selection of merchandise

d. Listen to customers to gain a thorough understanding of what they need

e. Make tailored recommendations based on customer needs

f. Provide exemplary customer service throughout the shift

2. Inventory Handling

a. Displaying and organizing products in the store for the customers to locate easily

b. Examine the sales floor to ensure merchandise is well-stocked, well-maintained and properly rotated

c. Sort and stock products on shelves and in the backroom throughout the day Follow established procedures to label, track, and stock items properly

d. Ensure accurate product counts

e. Update product pricing labels as directed by supervisor

3. Cashiering

a. Process business transactions, handle cash, accept and process debit/credit cards and perform returns or exchanges

b. Managing transactions with customers using cash registers and scanners

c. Scan goods and ensure pricing is accurate

d. Collect payments whether in cash or credit cards

  • Redeem coupons

e. Handle merchandise returns and exchanges

f. Issue receipts, refunds, or change

g. Bag, box or gift-wrap packages

4. Receiving

a. Receive shipments and sign receiving paperwork upon receipt

b. Inspect contents to ensure they are undamaged

  • If damaged, notify a supervisor right away for proper handling

c. Verify packages according to order and invoices (quantity, quality, price etc.)

d. Maintain accurate records and assist in inventory control

e. Process, check and stock inventory to ensure deliveries are correct and of good quality

5. Store Cleanliness

a. Maintain a clean and neat store appearance for our customers, following federal, state and local guidelines

b. Maintain cleanliness in the storeroom, especially when working with food products

c. Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas

KSA's

1. Knowledge

a. Ability to perform basic math, writing and reading tasks without supervision

b. Solid understanding of health and safety regulations

c. Basic PC knowledge

d. Have or is able to acquire and hold Alcohol Operator’s and Tobacco Seller’s Licenses

e. Knowledge of Smoke Shop Products a plus

2. Skills/Experience

a. Proven work experience as a Retail Clerk or similar role is preferred

b. Have Interpersonal Skills

c. Familiarity with electronic equipment, like cash register and POS

d. Strong communication and time management skills

3. Aptitudes

a. Ability to comfortably stand for extended periods of time on cement flooring

b. Ability to Multitask

c. Customer satisfaction-oriented

d. Keen eye for detail

e. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
