Position Highlights
The Associate Dean of AI in Medicine within the College of Medicine- Tucson (COM-T) will report to the Vice Dean of Strategy and Innovation. This position will be at 0.20 FTE and it is expected that the candidate will couple their deanship FTE with one or more of the tripartite mission areas towards a 1.0 FTE. The successful candidate will also fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (NTE/TE/T).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Education: help coordinate AI curriculum for COM-T undergraduate students, medical students, residents, fellows and graduate students, working with Vice Dean of Medical Education and Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education (Resident/Fellows) and Comprehensive Education Center Director (Undergraduate students).
  • Research: help coordinate AI research initiatives with Vice Dean of Research and Graduate Studies.
  • Clinical: help coordinate COM-T clinically relevant initiatives with Banner CTO.
  • Coordinate with the UArizona Office of Responsible AI, and with other Health Sciences and related UA colleges through the Associate Director for AI in Health care to leverage and integrate institutional resources that may be useful to the COM-T.
  • Ensure, document, and report continuous quality improvement across the tripartite mission based on a quarterly report.
  • Lead coordination of collaborative grant proposals (all types) for AI Innovation and Strategic initiatives for submission to federal, industry and philanthropic sources of funding of AI Innovative Development.
  • Be the 'point of contact' and advocate for faculty information to promote AI literacy and knowledge, and optimal use across the tripartite mission at CoM-T.
  • Liaison and alignment with UA and National policies/compliance with requirements for FAIR and Trustworthy AI.
  • Assist academic and administrative units in using and deploying AI tools to enhance efficiency across COM-T.
  • Provide annual report to the COM-T Dean's office to be used for the Annual State of the College address and it's Annual Report.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience with AI application development and use in medicine across the tripartite mission.
  • Knowledge of current CoM-T medical school curriculum, graduate medical education programs and undergraduate degrees, as well as across research areas.
  • Track record of communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with implementation and sustainability of complex projects.
  • Experience with obtaining support for targeted growth of a project.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Faculty Member at the UA College of Medicine - Tucson.
  • Must have an MD/DO degree from an accredited institution and be eligible for a University of Arizona academic appointment.
  • Board certified by the American Board of Medical Sub-specialties and eligible for unrestricted medical license in the State of Arizona.
  • Eligible for clinical privileges at B-UMCT.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge of AI in healthcare.
  • Currently working at UA/Banner University Medicine, or relevant health sciences space preferred.
  • Experience with UA systems, Process and Procedures preferred.
  • Experience with UA College of Medicine-Tucson Policy preferred.
  • Documented success as an academic physician with leadership and/or career advising background preferred.
