Job description

Description
The School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor in Architectural Structures in the Bachelor of Architecture Program (B.Arch). We are looking for qualified candidates to teach the introductory course in architectural structures that covers static equilibrium and stability of structures. The course should cover cables, arches, arch-cables and trusses.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of all aspects of structural design. They should be capable of developing a course syllabus and assignments. Prior teaching experience is a plus although not a requirement. At least five years of professional practice is required.
The course, Structural Design 1, meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00-12:20, with Recitations on Thursday 4:00-5:00 and Friday 11:00-11:50. It requires in-person teaching to forty third year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) students. Four teaching assistants will be provided to support recitations and grading.
Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate one or more of the following
  • A terminal degree in Architecture or Structural Engineering
  • At least 5 years of professional practice experience
  • University-level teaching experience-either full-time, adjunct, or visiting scholar-at the undergraduate or graduate levels
