They write and maintain Terraform scripts to deploy, configure, and manage Azure infrastructure efficiently and reliably. This role involves ensuring infrastructure consistency, enabling version control, and supporting scalability by automating repetitive tasks. Azure Terraform engineers often collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to implement best practices and optimize cloud environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Azure Terraform engineer?

To thrive as an Azure Terraform Engineer, you need solid experience with Azure cloud services, infrastructure as code (IaC) principles, and proficiency in Terraform scripting, often supported by certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator or HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate. Familiarity with tools like Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines is typically required. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and effective communication skills are crucial for implementing and maintaining scalable cloud infrastructures in team environments. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring secure, efficient, and reliable deployment of cloud resources that meet organizational needs.

  • Introduce new technologies and methodologies to enhance product capabilities.
  • Track and report KPIs for performance, quality, and delivery effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality releases.
  • Oversee incident response and ensure clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Partner with executives on budgeting, resource planning, and organizational growth.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years in software development; 5+ years in senior engineering leadership.
  • Experience leading distributed teams of 30+ engineers.
  • Strong background in C#, .NET, API design, microservices, and modern architectural patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with Git, Agile methodologies, and full-stack development.
  • Proven success delivering complex, scalable, cloud-based systems (AWS/Azure).
  • Strong understanding of CS fundamentals, system design, and high-volume service architecture.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native tooling.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical debt, drive outcomes, and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Experience with talent development, organizational design, and culture-building.

  • Deep AWS and Kubernetes experience (EKS preferred).
  • Strong DevOps capabilities: CI/CD automation, IaC, release management.
