Position Summary
The System Engineer is responsible for the design, administration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, security, and continuous improvement of enterprise infrastructure systems.
This position supports critical data center and cloud technologies and works closely with IT teams, security, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure infrastructure environments remain secure, resilient, scalable, highly available, and operationally efficient.
Top Technical Skills
Candidates with strong hands-on experience in the following technologies will be given highest consideration:
  • Cisco Firepower firewalls
  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
  • VMware NSX
  • VMware Avi Load Balancers
  • Microsoft Exchange hybrid environments

Key Responsibilities
  • Support infrastructure projects involving system design, architecture, resiliency, scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Administer and support the VMware infrastructure stack, including VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), VMware NSX, virtualization platforms, and related enterprise services.
  • Configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and support VMware Avi Load Balancers and associated application delivery services.
  • Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco Firepower firewall environments, including collaboration with security and networking teams when escalation or remediation is required.
  • Support and maintain Microsoft Exchange hybrid environments, including integration between on-premises Exchange and Microsoft 365.
  • Monitor and respond to infrastructure performance events including downtime, degradation, resource constraints, optimization opportunities, and capacity concerns.
  • Create, modify, maintain, and remove virtual machines, container clusters, container services, and related infrastructure resources.
  • Review security and infrastructure events affecting data center services and engage the appropriate security teams when corrective action is required.
  • Manage virtual storage, secondary storage, data replication, backup, recovery, and related infrastructure services.
  • Develop PowerShell and Linux shell scripts to automate Active Directory and enterprise infrastructure administration.
  • Develop API-based automation and scripting solutions to reduce repetitive system administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Assist with the administration, maintenance, and operation of Kubernetes clusters.
  • Support Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure administration and related cloud services.
  • Maintain Windows Server operating system updates and patching through automated patch-management platforms, with Ivanti preferred.
  • Review, respond to, resolve, or escalate actionable infrastructure and server log events to prevent outages and service degradation.
  • Support enterprise networking technologies and troubleshoot issues involving LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, firewalls, routing, connectivity, and related infrastructure services.
  • Collaborate with IT team members, security, vendors, management, and other technical stakeholders during infrastructure projects, implementations, upgrades, and ongoing operations.
  • Develop and maintain controls designed to ensure systems meet organizational security, operational, reliability, and quality standards.
  • Participate in infrastructure quality-control and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with technical evaluation and cost-benefit analysis for infrastructure improvements and new technology implementations.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as required.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by management.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum +5 years of hands-on experience as a System Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Network Administrator, or similar enterprise infrastructure role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise virtualization and VMware technologies.
  • Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).
  • Experience with VMware NSX networking and virtualization technologies.
  • Experience administering or supporting VMware Avi Load Balancers.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting Cisco Firepower firewalls.
  • Experience administering a Microsoft Exchange hybrid environment.
  • Strong proficiency with Windows PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with Linux shell scripting.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure administration.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise networking, including LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and related networking concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server patching and patch-management automation tools; Ivanti experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of system and infrastructure security, including security monitoring, intrusion detection, firewall technologies, and incident escalation.
  • Experience with backup, recovery, replication, storage, and disaster-recovery technologies.
  • Experience administering Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience creating infrastructure automation through APIs, scripting, or orchestration tools is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript, or other programming languages is preferred.
  • Kubernetes administration or operational experience is a strong plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a production enterprise environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams, vendors, leadership, and business partners.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Certification & Licensure
Microsoft infrastructure, VMware, Cisco, Azure, or related industry certifications are preferred.
Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) or equivalent Microsoft certification is a plus.
