What is Azure Purview?

Azure Purview is a unified data governance service from Microsoft that helps organizations manage and govern their on-premises, multi-cloud, and software-as-a-service (SaaS) data. It enables users to discover, classify, and map data across various sources, ensuring compliance and providing end-to-end data lineage. Azure Purview includes features such as automated data discovery, sensitive data classification, and data cataloging, making it easier for organizations to maximize the value of their data while maintaining security and regulatory standards.

What are the typical responsibilities of an Azure Purview specialist?

Professionals in Azure Purview roles are typically responsible for cataloging, classifying, and managing an organization’s data assets using Microsoft’s data governance platform. Their daily tasks often include configuring and maintaining metadata catalogs, setting up data classification policies, and collaborating with data stewards and engineers to ensure data quality and compliance. They play a crucial role in enabling data discoverability, supporting regulatory requirements, and helping teams make informed decisions based on trusted data. Collaboration with IT, data security, and business units is common to align data governance strategies with organizational goals.
