Location: Charleston, SC (Hybrid - 2 days remote)

About the Role
Apex Systems is seeking a Microsoft Azure Cloud Engineer to support a mission-critical initiative for a Department of Defense client. This role will play a key part in modernizing and optimizing cloud infrastructure supporting Naval software systems.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain secure and scalable cloud infrastructure (Azure-focused)
  • Develop and manage Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions (Terraform, ARM, etc.)
  • Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments
  • Automate cloud operations including monitoring, scaling, backup, and disaster recovery
  • Optimize cloud environments for performance, cost efficiency, and reliability
  • Support cloud migration initiatives and modernization efforts
  • Implement monitoring and observability solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex, multi-system issues
  • Provide technical recommendations aligned to cloud best practices
  • Create clear and concise technical documentation and architecture designs
  • Contribute to Agile team ceremonies and deliverables
Required Qualifications
  • Active Secret Clearance (or ability to obtain interim prior to start)
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • DoD 8570 / 8140 IAT Level II Certification (e.g., Security+)
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud engineering (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform)
  • Experience in a DevOps or infrastructure automation role
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation)
    • Automation tools (Ansible or similar)
    • Containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Cloud networking, security, and architecture design
    • Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team-based environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of cloud engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with:
    • CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
    • Scripting (Python, Bash, etc.)
    • Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
    • Microservices, serverless architecture, or container orchestration
    • Cloud cost optimization (FinOps practices)
  • Familiarity with tools such as Git, Jira, Confluence, or Artifactory

Certifications are a plus:
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator
  • Certified Scrum Developer (CSD/PSD)
  • Red Hat Ansible Certification
  • CISSP, ITIL, or similar
