Job description

Position Summary

The Principal Network Engineer will support the Enterprise Network to deliver complex projects, which includes design, implementation, change review/implementation, and advanced incident management support. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to designing and provisioning cloud infrastructure via code. This Engineer prepares performance and cost-optimal cloud services to deliver infrastructure aligned with reference architecture standards, requirements, frameworks, and patterns. The Principal Network Engineer will work closely with the Network Engineering team. The Engineer will be motivated to deliver results, and exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead total design and manage project activities including identifying appropriate resources necessary to achieve required outcome
  • Design network solutions for remote office sites, datacenter and Cloud network (Azure and AWS preferred)
  • Develop strategies and directions for network solutions using current and emerging technologies
  • Work with Solution Architect and Project management to design, develop and implement infrastructure components, server topology, capacity planning, information security and server hardening
  • Ensure the network environment maintains appropriate recovery and redundancy
  • Write scripts and/or code capable of implementing network services including but not limited to Virtual Networks, Firewalls, Load Balancers, Network Switches and Routers, and WiFi network
  • Write and execute code capable of managing Cloud governance policies, security, and cost management constructs
  • Plan broad development initiatives that leverage the technical strategic approach
  • Collaborate with other IT technical teams to drive IT technical policies and procedures
  • Create monitor alerts and remediation tasks
  • Create and leverage technology within the cloud environment that will improve operational metrics and best practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • Five (5) years of experience in a production operations environment
  • Two (2) years of experience in Microsoft Azure Cloud production environment
  • Strong background in utilizing Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Quality of Service (QoS) and Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  • Extensive experience with network automation and version controls tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Git or similar tools
  • Expertise in network and cyber security hardware and software, including routers, firewalls, and Intrusion Detection/Intrusion Prevention devices
  • Strong experience with Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) architecture
  • Experience deploying and administering production Kubernetes clusters - Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of L2/L3 network protocols
  • Proficient in IT Infrastructure with the ability to take ownership and responsibility of critical issues and conclude them to resolution
  • Strong understanding of DR (Disaster Recovery) and HA (highly availability) solutions
  • Available for overnight travel (up to 10%)
  • In possession of valid travel documentation with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Able to work flexible hours and be available for emergency responses on short notice
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience working as a Senior Network Engineer
  • Experiencing designing and building critical production solutions which are: implemented as code, fully automated, auto-scaled, fully instrumented, and monitored
  • Experience designing cloud networks solution
  • Experience with VMware vRealize management suite, including vRealize Automation and Orchestration
  • Experience designing monitoring and alerting strategies, backup, and disaster recovery
  • Experience operating and leveraging hyper converged computing platforms such as Nutanix and VxRail

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $118,800.00 and $177,100.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue's total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
