Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Application Support & Development Engineer to support the maintenance, enhancement, and operational excellence of enterprise applications serving Health Sciences, Translational Sciences, and Development functions. This role requires a hands-on technical professional with expertise in application support, database administration, Azure infrastructure, production support, and technical solution assessment.
The successful candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, IAM, and managed service providers to ensure applications are secure, reliable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and managed services oversight for applications supporting Translational Sciences and Development.
Perform hands-on application administration, troubleshooting, configuration, upgrades, and production support.
Coordinate application and database installation, configuration, patching, deployment, upgrades, and validation support.
Support Azure infrastructure activities, including Azure Portal administration, application servers, storage, file shares, connectivity, backups, and environment readiness.
Support scientific applications, with preference for experience in protein analysis, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, and scientific data management platforms.
Evaluate new application requests and major enhancements by assessing architecture, infrastructure, security, IAM, database, integration, compliance, and operational requirements.
Prepare technical documentation and solution recommendations for Technology Solution Board reviews.
Partner with Infrastructure and Security teams to onboard approved applications and prepare production-ready environments.
Manage production incidents, including P1 support, issue triage, and resolution coordination.
Collaborate with IAM teams to automate user provisioning and de-provisioning where applicable.
Develop and maintain runbooks, operational procedures, support documentation, and escalation processes.
Monitor vendor performance, SLA compliance, incident trends, and continuous service improvements.
Communicate project status, risks, issues, and technical updates to stakeholders and IT leadership.
Required Qualifications
8–18 years of experience in application support, application administration, or development support.
Strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise applications and databases.
Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud environments.
Expertise in application deployment, upgrades, patch management, and production support.
Working knowledge of ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Experience collaborating with Infrastructure, Security, Enterprise Architecture, and IAM teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting applications within Health Sciences or Translational Sciences environments.
Familiarity with protein analysis, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics tools, and scientific data management platforms.
Experience managing vendor-delivered support services.
Understanding of enterprise application onboarding and architecture review processes.
