Details
Azure Engineer/Architect
Location: Lakewood NJ - 1 day in office rest remote
Duration: 6-12 months
Our client is seeking an Azure Engineer experienced in Disaster Recovery (DR) and Azure Site Recovery (ASR) design and implementation. This role involves building end-to-end DR solutions from the ground up using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform, and Azure-native services including ASR (Azure Site Recovery), Azure Backup, and DRaaS.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in Azure cloud architecture, cross-region replication, failover automation, and resiliency best practices - ensuring business continuity and rapid recovery for critical workloads.
Must have implemented disaster recovery from scratch for infrastructure, terraform, IAC, Azure resourcegroups, ARM.
Responsibilities:
  • Architect and implement Azure Site Recovery (ASR) and Azure Backup for mission-critical systems.
  • Design and deploy Disaster Recovery (DR) environments following Microsoft best practices and DRaaS models.
  • Build and automate infrastructure with Terraform, ARM Templates, and IaC principles.
  • Define and enforce RTO/RPO objectives, failover/failback procedures, and test plans.
  • Configure cross-region replication, paired-region resilience, and failover routing using Traffic Manager and Front Door.
  • Integrate ASR and Azure Backup with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Automation Accounts for proactive monitoring.
  • Implement governance, security, and compliance through Azure Policy, Blueprints, and RBAC.
  • Maintain runbooks, documentation, and IaC repositories in Azure DevOps or Git.
  • Collaborate with architecture and operations teams to align DR design with enterprise standards.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • 5+ years hands-on experience as an Azure Engineer / Cloud Architect.
  • Proven success designing ASR (Azure Site Recovery) and DRaaS solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Terraform, IaC, and ARM templates.
  • Strong working knowledge of Azure Backup, Azure Compute, Networking, and Storage.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Pipelines, PowerShell, or Bash scripting.
  • Solid understanding of Azure governance, security best practices, and cost management.
  • Ability to plan, test, and document complete DR failover/failback scenarios.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Experience implementing Hybrid Cloud DR (on-prem to Azure).
  • Exposure to Bicep, GitOps, or Infrastructure Pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust and HA/DR design pattern
