What are the job duties for an Azure developer?

The job duties of an Azure developer are to consult with clients to determine their goals and needs related to cloud computing, virtual servers, and web hosting using Microsoft Azure applications, and then to design software applications or databases to reach those goals. As a developer, you work as part of a large team of technical experts, including programmers, QA testers, and project managers to design new products, or scale existing solutions and deploy them.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Azure developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Azure Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as C# or Python), cloud architecture knowledge, and experience with Microsoft Azure services, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Azure DevOps, ARM templates, and relevant certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate are typically required. Problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These skills and qualifications enable efficient cloud solution development, integration, and collaboration in dynamic technical environments.

How does an Azure developer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during cloud solution projects?

As an Azure Developer, you will frequently work alongside solution architects, DevOps engineers, security specialists, and business analysts to design, implement, and optimize cloud-based solutions. Collaboration often involves participating in sprint planning, code reviews, and daily stand-ups to ensure alignment on project goals and technical requirements. Effective communication and a willingness to share cloud expertise are key, as you may be called upon to explain Azure best practices and troubleshooting strategies to team members with varying levels of cloud experience.

Job description

Senior Scrum Master - Application Development & DevOps Delivery
Bring your Scrum leadership experience to a modern application-development environment where you will help software engineering teams improve delivery flow, remove obstacles, strengthen backlog readiness, and deliver high-quality business applications.
This role is ideal for an experienced Scrum Master who understands how development teams work across GitHub, Azure DevOps, pull requests, testing, releases, cross-team dependencies, and production delivery. The successful candidate will be a hands-on facilitator and servant leader-not simply someone who schedules ceremonies.
Role Overview
The Senior Scrum Master will support application-development teams building modern web applications, enterprise platforms, integrations, and business technology solutions.
You will help teams maintain healthy delivery flow, prepare work for sprint execution, surface risks and dependencies, improve team practices, and coordinate effectively with product, project, development, testing, infrastructure, security, cloud, and data teams.
This role does not own product priorities or technical scope. Instead, it enables the delivery team to work effectively, make commitments based on capacity, and continuously improve its development process.
Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including:
    • Backlog refinement
    • Sprint planning
    • Daily stand-ups
    • Sprint reviews and demonstrations
    • Sprint retrospectives
  • Remove impediments and help development teams maintain healthy delivery flow.
  • Create and maintain Kanban and Scrum boards in GitHub and Azure DevOps.
  • Help teams break larger work items into clear user stories and manageable tasks.
  • Ensure work items include:
    • Clear descriptions
    • Acceptance criteria
    • Estimates
    • Dependencies
    • Steps to reproduce defects
  • Support backlog readiness without assuming ownership of backlog priorities or product scope.
  • Reinforce team working agreements, Definition of Ready, and Definition of Done.
  • Identify blockers, risks, and cross-team dependencies early.
  • Coordinate dependencies with teams such as:
    • Data services
    • Security
    • Infrastructure
    • Cloud
    • Quality assurance
  • Escalate unresolved delivery risks to application-development and project leadership.
  • Track sprint progress, team capacity, product burndown, sprint burndown, and delivery trends.
  • Prepare and present weekly project status reports and key performance indicators.
  • Help teams plan sprint capacity based on holidays, planned time off, development effort, and testing needs.
  • Support development teams through GitHub and Azure DevOps pull-request and delivery processes.
  • Facilitate collaboration among developers, product owners, project managers, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
  • Help improve team predictability, delivery quality, and continuous-improvement practices.
  • Troubleshoot multiple delivery issues and competing priorities concurrently.
  • Coach teams on Scrum practices, team norms, Agile delivery, and effective use of ceremonies.

Required Qualifications
  • Five or more years of hands-on Scrum Master experience supporting application-development or software-engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting teams that build:
    • Modern web applications
    • Enterprise applications
    • Application integrations
    • Business technology platforms
  • Current Scrum Master certification from Scrum Alliance, Scrum.org, or a comparable recognized organization.
  • Hands-on experience using both GitHub and Azure DevOps.
  • Experience creating and maintaining delivery boards, user stories, tasks, defects, estimates, and dependencies.
  • Experience supporting software teams through GitHub or Azure DevOps pull-request processes.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Scrum roles and events
    • Backlog refinement
    • Sprint planning
    • Team capacity
    • Delivery flow
    • Definition of Ready
    • Definition of Done
    • Continuous improvement
  • Experience tracking and reporting sprint and product burndown.
  • Experience preparing and presenting weekly project-status reports and delivery KPIs.
  • Ability to identify, communicate, and help resolve risks, blockers, and dependencies.
  • Strong servant-leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving application-development environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, business, or a related field.
  • Experience working with cross-functional application-development teams that include:
    • Developers
    • QA engineers
    • Product owners
    • Business analysts
    • Cloud engineers
    • Infrastructure teams
    • Security teams
  • Knowledge of iterative software development, CI/CD, release management, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with software architecture and application-integration concepts.
  • Experience supporting multiple development teams or complex enterprise initiatives.
  • Experience helping teams improve predictability, cycle time, throughput, or sprint completion rates.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a seasoned Scrum Master who has worked directly with software-development teams and understands the realities of delivering modern applications.
You are comfortable discussing user stories, acceptance criteria, technical dependencies, defects, pull requests, development capacity, testing effort, and release readiness. You can coach teams without becoming overly authoritative and can challenge unclear work, weak planning, or hidden delivery risks in a constructive way.
You are organized, proactive, calm under pressure, and able to build trust with both technical and business stakeholders.
