What You'll Do

  • Modern C++ on Linux inside an SCA 4.1 core framework: waveform components and their ports, device abstractions, control and status APIs, and the network path that drives a T/Rx from a phone, tablet or PC - under real-time constraints, at high IQ rates.
  • Advanced VHDL on the digital chain: up- and down conversion, decimation and interpolation, FIR and CIC filtering, channelization, streaming interfaces, converter links, and full-bandwidth record and playback. You learn budget logic, DSP slices, bandwidth and latency.
  • The 1 MHz - 18 GHz path: LO and synthesizer planning, spurious and harmonic analysis, gain / noise figure / IP3 cascades, filtering and isolation, transmit linearity, receiver sensitivity and dynamic range, calibration, and the thermal realities of an all-weather ruggedized box.
  • IQ recording and playback, parametric signal synthesis, detection, classification and parameter estimation, wideband spectrum sensing. You prototype an algorithm, prove it against captured data, take it to fixed point, and hand it to the FPGA and software teams - closing the loop on the other three.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Requirements:

  • BS or MS from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Working knowledge of C or C++, and comfort in a Linux environment.
  • Coursework, project or research experience in at least two of: signals and systems / DSP; RF, microwave or communication theory; digital logic design and HDL; embedded or real-time systems.
  • Scripting and modelling ability in Python or MATLAB.
  • Engineering experience outside the classroom - internship, co-op, research, hackathon, competition team or a serious personal project.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative Agile team, to adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and to take a temporary assignment at another VIAVI location

Preferred Qualifications

  • VHDL or Verilog beyond coursework, on any board hands-on SDR - RTL-SDR, HackRF, USRP, PlutoSDR, GNU Radio
  • Amateur radio, antenna building or RF lab time
  • DSP detection, classification or estimation project
  • Embedded Linux, drivers, DMA, high-rate data movement
  • Component-based frameworks - SCA, REDHAWK, CORBA, ROS
  • Version control, code review and CI as habits
  • Radar, avionics, aerospace or spectrum monitoring exposure
  • Satellite, robotics or motorsport teams where the system had to work on a deadline
