Job description

Join Axon and be a Force for Good.
At Axon, we're on a mission to Protect Life. We're explorers, pursuing society's most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.
Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you'll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.
Your Impact
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Enterprise New Markets team, you will lead the design and delivery of complex systems that help Axon explore, validate, and scale new enterprise product ideas - with a focus on healthcare. You'll take ownership of translating ambiguous problem spaces into well-architected solutions, balancing rapid experimentation with the durability required for production-grade software.
This role sits at the intersection of technical leadership and product discovery in healthcare workflows. You'll work closely with Product Managers, designers, and customers to shape technical approaches that span EHR integrations, devices, and AI-powered experiences, and iterate quickly based on real-world clinical and operational feedback. As concepts mature, you'll help evolve proofs-of-concept into scalable systems that integrate deeply with Axon's platform and with healthcare systems of record.
You operate in an AI-first engineering environment, where you leverage advanced AI systems to inform design decisions, accelerate development, and improve system reliability. As a senior engineer, you are expected to raise the technical bar for the team - owning complex systems end-to-end, influencing technical direction, coordinating work across engineers, driving adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices, and modeling strong engineering practices as we identify and build the next generation of enterprise products for Axon customers in healthcare and adjacent industries.
What You'll Do
Work Location: This role is based out of our Scottsdale Arizona office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation.
Reports to: Senior Software Engineering Manager
  • Own the design and implementation of complex systems and services supporting new healthcare enterprise product initiatives
  • Build and evolve proof-of-concepts into production-ready systems that integrate with Axon's platform, electronic health records and other healthcare enterprise systems, and hardware devices
  • Design and deliver AI-powered capabilities, including speech/AI transcription pipelines and LLM-based features that support clinical and operational workflows
  • Work closely with Product Managers and healthcare customers to clarify requirements, evaluate feasibility, and iterate based on feedback
  • Coordinate technical work across engineers on the team and with adjacent teams to deliver cohesive end-to-end solutions
  • Set and uphold a high technical standard through thorough code and architecture reviews, including evaluation of AI-generated code and patterns, with attention to reliability, security, privacy, and maintainability
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows across the team, embedding automation and intelligent tooling into planning and execution
  • Anticipate and mitigate technical risks related to scalability, operability, compliance-sensitive data handling, and long-term system evolution
  • Mentor and support other engineers through technical guidance, pairing, and constructive feedback - including coaching on AI-first development practices
  • Contribute to planning, estimation, and execution of projects that span multiple features or components
  • Improve our Engineering process, including long-term thinking, weekly operating model, and collaboration
What You Bring
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Experience designing and delivering complex, cloud-based systems with high availability and performance requirements
  • Strong system design skills, including the ability to reason clearly about tradeoffs across scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability
  • Experience creating and evolving APIs, services, or components used by other engineers or systems
  • Direct experience working with electronic health records (EHRs) - for example, building software at an EHR vendor, integrating applications with EHR platforms, or delivering clinical/operational systems inside a hospital or health system
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability concepts and standards (such as FHIR, HL7, or SMART on FHIR) and how they show up in real clinical workflows
  • Experience evaluating and integrating AI-assisted development tools into engineering workflows, with a strong understanding of how AI can improve developer productivity, system design, and operational efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous problem spaces and drive clarity through technical leadership
  • Experience leading technical projects and coordinating work across multiple teams
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, working effectively across engineering, product, and design - including with clinical or healthcare operations stakeholder
Nice to Have
  • Deep experience with a major EHR platform (e.g., Epic, Oracle Health/Cerner, MEDITECH) - as a platform engineer, app/integration developer, or health-system IT builder
  • Experience shipping products that sit on top of EHR data or workflows (patient access, care coordination, clinical decision support, revenue cycle, etc.)
  • Experience building or scaling enterprise products in regulated or privacy-sensitive environments (HIPAA, PHI handling)
  • Experience with speech-to-text / AI transcription systems, LLM-powered product features, or ML-adjacent application development
  • Experience integrating with hardware devices or device-backed workflows
  • Experience iterating directly with customers or stakeholders based on feedback
  • Experience working across the fullstack and using multiple technologies
Benefits that Benefit You
  • Competitive salary and 401k with employer match
  • Discretionary paid time off
  • Paid parental leave for all
  • Medical, Dental, Vision plans
  • Fitness Programs
  • Emotional & Mental Wellness support
  • Learning & Development programs
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
