What You'll Doย 

NetDocuments is seeking a Staff FinOps Engineer to lead cloud financial operations across AWS and Azure. In this role, you will drive financial governance, cost visibility, and optimization strategies across a large-scale multi-cloud SaaS environment, partnering closely with CloudOps, Engineering, Finance, and leadership teams to improve operational efficiency and maximize business value.ย 

This is a highly strategic and hands-on role grounded in the FinOps Foundation Framework, with direct accountability for translating financial insights into engineering action and measurable cost optimization outcomes.ย 

You will:ย 

Lead Cloud Financial Strategy & Governanceย 

  • Drive FinOps practices across AWS and Azure using the FinOps Foundation Framework domains: Understand Usage and Cost, Quantify Business Value, Optimize Usage and Cost, and Manage the FinOps Practice.ย 
  • Establish and maintain cost allocation models, tagging standards, and governance frameworks that enable accurate, actionable financial visibility.ย 
  • Develop and enforce cloud financial policies, standards, and operational best practices across Engineering and CloudOps teams.ย 
  • Partner with leadership to support cloud cost reduction initiatives and long-term infrastructure efficiency goals.ย 

Drive Cost Visibility & Financial Insightsย 

  • Own and manage CloudZero configuration, including taxonomy, tagging governance, and cost allocation rules.ย 
  • Deliver actionable reporting and analysis for Engineering, Product, Finance, and leadership stakeholders, including anomaly detection, trend analysis, forecasting, and variance reporting.ย 
  • Maintain visibility across AWS, Azure, Datadog, Elastic, and related platforms.ย 
  • Advance cost intelligence initiatives, including unit economics and cost-per-customer analysis.ย 

Optimize Cloud & SaaS Spendย 

  • Identify and drive optimization opportunities across Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, rightsizing, storage optimization, and SaaS licensing.ย 
  • Develop and maintain utilization and cost-per-unit reporting across key infrastructure and vendor platforms.ย 
  • Partner with Engineering teams to improve cost-aware architecture and operational decision-making.ย 
  • Track optimization initiatives through measurable outcomes and ongoing KPI reporting.ย 

Build & Scale the FinOps Practiceย 

  • Embed FinOps processes into budgeting, forecasting, operational reviews, and engineering workflows.ย 
  • Coach Engineering and CloudOps teams on cost accountability and sustainable financial operations under a "You Build It, You Run It" model.ย 
  • Automate repeatable governance and reporting workflows using SQL, Python, and infrastructure tooling.ย 
  • Drive adoption of emerging FinOps standards such as the FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS).ย 

Support Emerging AI & Platform Cost Managementย 

  • Establish financial visibility and governance models for AI and machine learning workloads, including cost-per-token analysis and budget guardrails.ย 
  • Partner with teams across the organization to evaluate evolving infrastructure usage patterns and cost drivers.ย 
  • Help shape scalable financial operating models for emerging technologies and cloud-native platforms.ย 

What You'll Need to Be Successfulย 

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud financial management, FinOps, cloud infrastructure operations, or related disciplines.ย 
  • Deep expertise in AWS cost architecture and strong working knowledge of Azure cost management.ย 
  • Experience administering FinOps platforms, including ownership of cost allocation rules, tagging governance, and financial reporting structures.ย 
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for reporting, analysis, and automation.ย 
  • Experience building cloud cost forecasts, financial models, and executive-level variance reporting.ย 
  • Strong understanding of AWS cost optimization strategies, including Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and enterprise discount models.ย 
  • Experience implementing governance policies using Terraform, AWS Service Control Policies, or similar infrastructure-as-code approaches.ย 
  • Demonstrated ability to influence Engineering teams and drive operational change without direct authority.ย 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.ย 
  • Applied understanding of the FinOps Foundation Framework, including its principles, capabilities, and operating model.ย

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Engineer certification.ย 
  • Experience with CloudZero or similar enterprise FinOps platforms.ย

  • Experience in SaaS environments where infrastructure costs directly impact gross margin performance.ย

Compensation Transparency ย 

The compensation range for this position is: $125,000 - $150,000ย 

The posted cash compensation for this position includes on target earnings. Some roles may qualify for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are determined based on various factors specific to each candidate, such as career level, skills, experience, geographic location, qualifications, and other job-related considerations.ย
