Position Overview
The Quality Inspector, Welding is responsible for ensuring welding activities and related construction work meet project specifications, quality standards, and applicable industry codes. This role performs inspections, verifies compliance with approved welding procedures, reviews quality documentation, and supports project teams in delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality construction projects.
Working closely with construction, engineering, and quality teams, the Welding Quality Inspector helps identify issues, promote corrective actions, and ensure welding work is completed in accordance with company and client requirements.
District Overview
Kiewit Power Constructors (KPC) provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a union craft force. Kiewit Power Constructors builds major EPC power plant and solar projects throughout North America.
Location
The position is based out of Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
  • Perform welding inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, approved procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Review welding documentation, including WPSs, PQRs, welder qualifications, and inspection records.
  • Monitor welding, fabrication, and installation activities to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Coordinate and verify NDE testing, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Identify, document, and track non-conformances through resolution.
  • Conduct field audits and quality surveillance to ensure compliance with company and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with construction, engineering, and project teams to resolve quality issues and improve project execution.
  • Maintain inspection reports, quality records, and turnover documentation.
  • Support quality meetings and provide updates on inspection results and project quality performance.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement across project sites.
  • Assist with subcontractor and vendor quality oversight activities.
  • Support project commissioning and closeout by verifying completion of quality requirements.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in welding quality inspection, quality control, or quality assurance within power, industrial, oil & gas, or heavy construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication, and installation practices.
  • Experience interpreting welding drawings, specifications, isometrics, and quality documentation.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including AWS, ASME, API, and related specifications.
  • Experience reviewing Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), welder qualifications, and NDE reports.
  • Strong understanding of inspection methods, testing requirements, and quality control procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and quality reporting systems.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in field and construction environments and access all areas of active project sites.
  • Ability to travel and/or temporarily relocate as required by project needs.

Nice to Have
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • API 577 Welding Inspection and Metallurgy certification.
  • ASNT Level II or Level III certifications (VT, PT, MT, UT, or RT).
  • Additional industry certifications such as API, NACE, CWB, or related quality certifications.
