The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
This position is the primary point of accountability to Business and Execution partners and other parties for the management and implementation of large, transformative, complex Projects and Programs of substantial size and complexity that support achievement of strategic Business Insurance goals. This position is responsible for management and oversight of multiple Business Portfolios within Business Insurance. In every case, these are efforts involving significant risk and complexity, large numbers of resources, complex organizational change issues and support achievement of enterprise and/or strategic corporate goals. This role has considerable executive visibility and senior leadership-level accountability. Additionally, this role carries accountability for driving project management best practices including deployment and socialization of standards, methods, tools, and metrics.What Will You Do?
  • The AVP, Project Management controls planning and execution of the Projects, Programs, Portfolios and the PMO's activities and resources to ensure that established cost, time, and quality goals are met.
  • The AVP, Project Management works with a high degree of autonomy and applies expert Project and Program Management knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to Project deliverables, processes, and systems in order to meet or exceed stakeholder needs and expectations.
  • The AVP, Project Management defines and operates within parameters using a proven Project Management Methodology with flexibility to merge different methodologies in accomplishing collective goals.
  • The AVP, Project Management also defines demand and delivery parameters using proven industry best practices.
  • The AVP, Project Management leads a team of Project and Program Managers
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 10 years of project management experience.
  • 5 years of experience managing others.
  • Proven track record owning a large-scale ($25M+), multi-year transformation program with high cross-functional and executive visibility.
  • Extensive experience utilizing vendor resources to complete project work, including managing fairly complex vendor relationships due to number of vendors, contracting nature, and/or other engagement parameters.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently at the executive/senior leadership level, including direct program-level risk escalation and decision support.
  • Experience with Agile/SAFe governance models at scale (PI Planning, ART structures) preferred.
  • Insurance or financial services background is a plus, but not required.
  • Typically has extensive experience in utilizing vendor resources to complete Project work.
  • Vendor relationship management could be fairly complex due to number of vendors, nature of contracting, and/or other engagement parameters.
  • Manages team development, very active in the mentoring of members of the PM community, typically has direct management responsibility of PMs.
  • Provides significant contribution to internal enterprise standard setting.
  • Promotes adoption of industry standards and best practices.
  • Introduces and coaches on new Project Management techniques.
  • Charged with mid-Project recovery of at risk Projects.
  • Recommends rescoping, postponement, or cancellation as needed.
  • Conducts root cause analysis and implements recovery actions.
  • Provides substantive feedback to organizational learnings regarding improving Project Management execution.
What is a Must Have?
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of project management experience.
  • 3 years experience managing others.
