Job description

AEC, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for our Aviation Technical Writer position. Successful applicants are those who thrive in a focused, client‑centered, and fast‑paced technical environment.

AEC Inc. was founded over 40 years ago as an entrepreneurial company dedicated to providing world‑class technical documentation services. Our experience includes the support of programs in aerospace, transportation, manufacturing, and more. Our cross‑functional teams of technical writers, illustrators, and documentation specialists help customers develop and integrate a wide range of technical documentation and information management solutions.

The Technical Writer position is responsible for developing, writing, and editing mechanical and electrical system portions of maintenance manuals, operations manuals, parts catalogs, and other technical publications to accurately reflect a product or process. In addition, this position will be responsible for revision and creation of simple illustrations, interpretation and compliance with regulatory and specification requirements, and performing peer reviews.

Qualifications
  • Six to eight years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related area.
  • A good working knowledge of aircraft systems, tools, test equipment, parts nomenclature, and maintenance practices and procedures.
  • An A&P certificate is desirable.
  • An ability to analyze engineering data, test plans, analysis, wiring diagrams, and other design data to determine procedures for in‑service maintenance of complex machines and systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Above average knowledge in Microsoft Office products and the Microsoft Office cloud environment.
  • The ability to travel domestically and internationally, if needed.
Essential Duties
  • Research, organize, evaluate, and comprehend customer design data such as drawings, specifications, schematics, diagrams, photographs, and reports to gain a thorough understanding of complex systems and how they are to be integrated into technical manuals.
  • Compose and develop maintenance descriptions of systems, their operation and function. Create the content for in‑service procedures based on customer‑provided data and requirements.
  • Successfully meet writing schedules and budgets while maintaining quality of writing assignments.
  • Work with clients on resolving technical issues.
  • Exercise judgment in creating documentation, especially when conflicting or nonexistent source data precludes following normal writing procedures.
  • Support the workflow process in a team environment to ensure successful completion of each revision cycle.
  • Model and promote the company’s values.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement efforts to ensure that you contribute to the overall success of the company.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Demonstrate good communication and active listening skills.
