Aviation Software Engineer Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Aviation Software Engineer (Remote), and why are they important?

To thrive as an Aviation Software Engineer working remotely, you need a strong background in computer science or engineering, proficiency in programming languages like C++ or Python, and experience with aviation standards such as DO-178C. Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, Simulink, version control systems (e.g., Git), and certification in safety-critical software development are often required. Exceptional problem-solving, attention to detail, and clear remote communication skills help you excel in distributed teams. These skills ensure the delivery of reliable, compliant, and safe aviation software crucial for the industry's strict regulatory and operational demands.

What does an Aviation Software Engineer do when working remotely?

An Aviation Software Engineer working remotely is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software solutions specifically for the aviation industry. This can include applications for flight management systems, air traffic control, aircraft navigation, and other critical aviation technologies. Remote engineers collaborate with teams using digital tools, ensuring the software meets safety standards and regulatory requirements. They also troubleshoot issues, implement updates, and may interact with hardware simulators or cloud-based systems to ensure functionality and reliability. Communication and collaboration skills are vital, as much of the coordination happens online.

What are some common challenges faced by Aviation Software Engineers working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Aviation Software Engineers working remotely may encounter challenges such as coordinating with cross-functional teams across different time zones, ensuring secure access to sensitive aviation data, and maintaining clear communication during complex development cycles. To address these issues, it is helpful to establish regular virtual meetings, utilize robust collaboration tools, and adhere to strict cybersecurity protocols. Proactively documenting code and processes also helps maintain project alignment and quality standards within a distributed team.

Job description

Senior Software Engineer

RADICL is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our platform team. You'll design and build API integrations and highly scalable data processing pipelines that power our security data ingestion, handling both structured and unstructured data from diverse security tools and log sources. You'll be integrating log collectors and forwarders (Fluentd, Fluent Bit, Vector, Logstash, Elastic Beats) and working with data from EDR platforms, cloud providers, compliance tools, and other security data sources. Your work will directly impact how quickly and accurately we onboard new data sources and how effectively our AI-powered virtual SOC delivers threat detection and compliance capabilities. You will also be a key part of implementing our agentic automation for parsing and mapping dynamic data sources.

If the above excites you, RADICL is seeking high-performing, motivated individuals to join our mission. As an early member, you will work closely alongside an experienced founding team. You will work with the latest tech stack tools and platforms. You will have a significant impact on the growth of an innovative cybersecurity offering in the SMB space. You will receive an outsized equity grant and realize the life-changing experience of building a company.

You enjoy fast-paced environments, bring a positive attitude, and excel at getting things done. You enjoy being part of a high performing team and are also able to self-direct and self-start. You consider yourself to be top tier talent and are eager to help others raise their game. You enjoy working with customers, are an excellent communicator, and able to engage and interact with people of various backgrounds and skill levels. You want your work to have meaning, to be important. You want to be part of creating something great.

As a RADICL Senior Software Engineer, you will:

  • Cloud-native, distributed systems — reliability, performance, and security in AWS, GCP, or Azure; microservices; Docker and Kubernetes; CI/CD (e.g. GitHub Actions).
  • Architecture and quality — help shape how systems connect; code review, testing, documentation, and clear tradeoffs in multi-tenant, mission-critical environments.
  • Design and build API integrations for ingesting security data from third-party tools (EDR, cloud providers, compliance platforms, and other security data sources)
  • Develop log parsing and data mapping pipelines to normalize structured and unstructured log formats into our unified schema
  • Integrate with log collectors and forwarders (e.g., Fluentd, Fluent Bit, Vector, Logstash, Elastic Beats)
  • Create and maintain data mappings between source schemas and our internal data model
  • Optimize ingestion performance and ensure data quality, completeness, and timeliness
  • Document integration specifications and support internal and external stakeholders with technical guidance
  • Contribute to the design of our emerging agentic parsing pipeline (LLM-powered extraction for complex formats)

Your skillset/experience should include:

  • Data integration fundamentals: ETL design, RESTful API development, data mapping, and schema design
  • Log parsing and normalization: Experience with regex, Grok-style patterns, or similar; comfort with both structured (JSON, CEF, syslog, CSV) and unstructured log formats
  • Log collection/forwarding tools: Experience with one or more of Fluentd, Fluent Bit, Vector, Logstash, Elastic Beats (Filebeat, Winlogbeat), OpenTelemetry Collector, rsyslog, or syslog-ng
  • Security data platforms: Familiarity with security data ingestion patterns; experience with Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, Graylog, Sumo Logic, Google Chronicle, IBM QRadar, or similar platforms is valuable
  • Programming: Strong proficiency in Go, Kotlin, and/or TypeScript
  • Data modeling: Ability to design schemas for security/observability data; familiarity with Elasticsearch and Elastic Common Schema or similar is a plus
  • Cloud and infrastructure: Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP; familiarity with Kafka or streaming pipelines is a plus
  • Security domain awareness: Understanding of SIEM concepts, security tooling (EDR, firewalls, cloud logs), and compliance data (CMMC, NIST) is highly valued
  • Agentic/AI pipelines: Interest or experience with LLM-based data extraction (nice-to-have)
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, data engineering, or related field—or equivalent professional experience (typically 3–6+ years)

About the Workplace At RADICL, we prioritize our culture and believe the strongest teams are built through daily, side-by-side collaboration and experiential sharing. We also value individual freedom and flexibility. For this reason, we have a hybrid work model. As a team, we are in office M/W/Th with work-from-home on Tuesdays and Fridays. For remote positions, periodic travel to Boulder will be expected to participate in company events and meaningful side-by-side collaboration opportunities.

RADICL offices are in downtown Boulder, Colorado with easy-to-access employee parking provided by the company. We offer comprehensive, competitive benefits including health, dental, and vision as well as 401K and a responsible PTO plan.

We encourage motivated, talented, mission-oriented, and fun people to apply. Let's do this!
