Description

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager - Aviation Engineering will provide senior level project management oversight on airport design projects. The Senior Project Manager will develop strong working relationships with airport authorities throughout the region, state agencies, counties and municipalities and other consulting firms. They must be knowledgeable of FAA criteria and design standards and have the ability to obtain PE licensure in multiple states. 

Responsibilities include the technical excellence of aviation engineering projects and on time and within budget project deliverables. This position has business development and management responsibilities for aviation engineering. The position also includes a significant contribution to strategic planning and building the aviation practice throughout the region.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Business Development:

Develop business and market Shrewsberry services in assigned geographic areas

Identify and market additional business opportunities with key clients

Participate in client relations management for assigned key clients

Participate in proposal presentations and business development activities

Utilize CRM for tracking all business development opportunities

Meet with new/existing clients to discover project information

Work with technical staff to develop proposal sections and scopes of work


Management:

Manage and be accountable for the overall financial performance and day-to-day operations for assigned engineering projects, including meeting or exceeding performance metrics

Implement current and proposed growth and sales plans and develop strategic plan for assigned clients/region.

Manage and deliver quality aviation projects on-time, within budget and to the satisfaction of the client

In conjunction with the Shrewsberry Safety Officer, conduct job hazard analysis and create jobsite specific health and safety plans as required

Mentor, and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans

Effective utilization of staff to maximize value for client

Coordinate work efforts and QC work performed

Foster a positive collaborative environment between divisions and offices; promote Shrewsberry culture

Utilize project management software for successful project management, timely invoicing of client, and accurate/timely reporting of employee expenses and time


Technical:

Serve as project expert on specific tasks or projects; routinely manages several projects concurrently

Provide technical direction, develop scopes of engineering work, provide detailed and on-going schedule input, assess man-hour requirements, and create budgets for the assigned project tasks/phases.

Mitigate project risk

Assign projects to designers and engineers and coordinates a team effort to support the project

Manage scope, identify and document changes in scope, and seek amendments for changes

Perform airfield civil engineering design tasks for projects from preliminary to final design; manage the bidding process and provide services during construction

Prepare complex studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports and supporting documentation

Provide senior QC review and direction on technical projects

Review detailed and complex reports detailing tests conducted and results 

Visit work sites on a frequent basis to monitor project progress

Communicate with clients regarding project issues and attend meetings

Define scope of work and man-hour requirements 

Responsible for ensuring that task, project schedules, and budgets are met

Develop engineering reports, specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages

Lead/participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and schedule performance

Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's in Civil Engineering required

10 years of experience with significant airside design

Demonstrated experience in successful application of FAA criteria and regulations, project management, client management, and staff development

Business development and marketing experience including writing proposals, scopes of work, fee proposal, and budgets for projected work


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated leadership skills, sense of vision and ability to motivate and manage others with a proven record of success

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong organization and time management skills

Strong client management and consultant team management skills

Ability to manage & mentor staff, and direct resources effectively 

Ability to provide practical and results oriented technical solutions for projects


LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Professional Engineer (PE) required

A valid driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the organization insurance policy

This is a full-time position with a base salary that ranges between $140,000 - $175,000 per year. In addition to salary, you are eligible for equity and a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k, and PTO.
