Job description

1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. is looking for a Tax Accountant to join our Tax team in Jericho, NY. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting or tax professional looking to continue developing their career while gaining broad exposure to corporate income tax, sales and use tax, tax provisions, compliance, audits, and special projects.


The Tax Accountant will report directly to the Tax Manager and will be responsible for preparing and assisting with federal, foreign, state, and local income tax compliance. This individual will also support quarterly and annual financial statement preparation in accordance with ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes, and assist the Sales Tax Manager with monthly sales tax reporting.


What You’ll Do

  • Prepare federal, foreign, state, and local income tax compliance filings.
  • Assist in maintaining the tax calendar and tracking statutory and internal filing deadlines.
  • Prepare and file miscellaneous state business tax reports accurately and on time.
  • Assist with federal, state, and local tax examinations.
  • Support responses to federal and state tax notices and maintain the tax notice tracker.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns and other miscellaneous tax filings.
  • Provide analytical support to the Sales Tax team across areas of sales and use tax compliance.
  • Help identify, report, and follow up on tax-related system issues and errors.
  • Coordinate tax-related testing associated with new system implementations, upgrades, rewrites, and other system modifications.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of wine excise tax returns.
  • Support state sales and use tax audits, including compiling reports and records, reviewing sampling methodologies, reviewing audit workpapers and schedules, and providing supporting documentation.
  • Assist with special projects assigned by Tax Department management.


What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Tax required.
  • 1–3 years of taxation experience within a public accounting firm or corporate tax department in the consumer business industry.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local income taxes.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to work accurately under tight deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining organized, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes.
  • International tax experience, including transfer pricing and foreign tax reporting such as Forms 5471, 5472, and 8858.
  • Knowledge of property tax and sales and use taxes.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters tax tools, including OneSource and Checkpoint.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, and other factors permitted by law.
