ROLE OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking interest in skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team at projects in USA in the Mountain West area. Successful candidates will play a critical role in the earth-moving operations, ensuring that all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. This role's responsibilities include operation of multiple pieces of mining equipment; Haul Trucks, Dozers, Graders, Excavators, and other support equipment to assist in the extraction and handling of materials, contributing directly to the success of the mine's operations. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform earthmoving and support duties in a mining environment, as directed 
  • Conduct and appropriately document daily pre-operational inspections 
  • Identify potential machine issues and consult with maintenance to execute prompt repairs 
  • Effectively communicate with supervisors, fellow operators, and ground personnel in order to coordinate work and ensure safety 
  • Utilize radios or other communication systems on the job site with appropriate and respectful communication tactics 
  • Understand and adhere to local and national mining regulations, including environmental protection standards and operational safety guidelines 
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, perform adjustments, and find practical solutions to challenges faced during excavating and mining tasks 
  • Identify and report workplace hazards and incidents through the Company's safety management system 
  • Work independently and with a team to adapt to the changing demands of the mining operation 
  • Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing PPE 
  • Manage timecards effectively 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Minimum of 3 yrs recent experience working on large-scale mining projects, particularly in open-pit mines:
    • Dozers D6-D11
    • Haul Trucks: At least 100 ton
    • Graders: 16 M 
    • Excavators: 6015
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with minimal supervision at times 
  • Good oral and written communication skills 
  • High level of attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills 
  • Ability and willingness to work different schedule on site based on project needs 
  • Ability to work with other project employees to meet the project's safety, environment, and production targets 
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment 
  • Familiarity with mine site safety protocols, procedures, and environmental regulations 
  • Prior experience working in adverse and remote environments (extreme weather, difficult terrain) is an asset 
  • Valid driver's license at time of hire, maintained throughout employment with Thiess 
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is required 
  • Must be fluent in the English language 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift 50 pounds  
  • Able to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees Fahrenheit  
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders  
  • Able to work for extended 12-hour shifts  
  • Can work night shifts six days at a time and properly manage fatigue  
  • No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)  
  • Quick response/reaction times  
  • Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity 
  • Weight below 350 lbs 

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid equipment operator certifications, with a proven safety record in mine or construction operations 
  • Must have or be willing to acquire site-specific safety training (e.g., MSHA, First Aid/CPR) 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Work schedule: 14 on / 7 off , rotating day and night between the 14-day swings 
  • The suitable candidate will travel on a Fly In / Fly Out (FIFO) or Drive In, Drive Out (DIDO) arrangement 
  • Safety Classification: Non-DOT, Safety Critical
