Performs responsible, professional work in managing the Garey House property, vendors and guests during group meetings, weddings and special events. Ensures organizers and attendees have a positive experience at Garey House. Evening and weekend work is required. Position hours vary upon event frequency with scheduled work hours varying from four (4) to forty-eight (48) hours per month.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Able to work evenings, weekends, holiday weekends, and minor holidays.

  • Ability to work flex hours when necessary for proper event coverage, ranging from 3-12 hours per event.

  • Assist with special events and activities - including the set-up and teardown of event furnishings.

  • Responsible for directing vendors during event set-up and decorating, catering load-in, etc. through clear and detailed communication.

  • Ensure attendees have a positive experience.

  • Inspect all areas of the venue to ensure cleanliness and the safety of all guests and maintain restrooms throughout events.

  • Inspect all areas of venue for damages before and after events.

  • Ensure that events end on time and all guests/vendors leave the Garey Park property by the end of their rental period.

  • Proactively handle any issues and troubleshoot emerging problems on the day of the event. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make proper decisions in handling incidents at all types of events.

  • Learn and maintain the Garey House HVAC system, AV system, lighting, security and building access control.

  • Available to meet for face-to-face consultations to finalize venue details before client events.

  • Responsible for assisting with site visits/tours of Garey House, "drop-in dates" and open houses.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors.

  • Be familiar with Georgetown's history, visitor attractions, hotels, restaurants, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

High school graduate OR any combination of experience, education or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Preferred: Coursework in Tourism, Marketing, Hospitality Management or related field. Successful experience in an events and venue servicing position.

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office applications

  • CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software

  • Modern office practices.

  • City and administrative policies and procedures.

  • Sales and Marketing principles and methods involved in showing, promoting, and selling services and locations.

Skills in:

  • Building and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Performing basic mathematical calculations.

  • Using a computer and utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including advanced word processing/desktop publishing skills.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three (3) year driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, and use of foot controls. May be subject to extended periods of standing, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as setting up, conducting, and cleaning up for events. Work is performed indoors and outdoors at City park and venue; required to perform moderate physical work, and move up to 40 pounds to include chemicals and recreation equipment.

Hiring Range: $24.00, hourly.
