Job description

AV Service Technician
(IT and Networking Professionals Encouraged to Apply)
Why Work Here?
Audio Video Systems (AVS) is the leading integrator of luxury and custom home automation in
Utah — over 20 years in business, more than 100 employees, and still growing fast. We're built
on Integrity, Excellence, Relationships, and Team Loyalty, and we offer a positive environment,
fair pay, and real opportunities for advancement.

Our Service Technicians diagnose and repair installed AV, automation, and networking systems
so clients stay highly satisfied.

Coming from IT or Helpdesk?

Today's high-end AV is specialized IT work — enterprise-grade networks, managed switches,
VLANs, IP-controlled devices, and remote management across dozens of integrated endpoints.
IT professionals with on-site support or installation experience are an especially strong fit: the
troubleshooting mindset translates directly, and many of our strongest technicians came from IT
backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities
• Diagnose and repair issues in installed AV and smart home systems (Control4, Lutron,
Savant, Crestron, etc.).
• Troubleshoot wired and wireless networks, including managed switches, VLANs, QoS,
DHCP/DNS, VPN, and remote access configuration.
• Provide endpoint and device support across a wide mix of hardware — touch panels,
streamers, displays, cameras, access points, and IoT devices.
• Service and recalibrate lighting systems, motorized shades, alarm systems, and
distributed audio/video systems.
• Perform firmware updates, factory resets, and reprogramming as needed.
• Use remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools to triage issues before and during
site visits.
• Communicate with clients to assess problems and clearly explain the service actions
taken.
• Document all diagnostics, parts used, and service resolutions clearly and professionally
in our ticketing system.
• Collaborate with the engineering, installation, and programming teams to resolve
complex issues.

Critical Skills & Qualifications
We're looking for experienced technicians first — but we also invest heavily in training, so
candidates with a solid technical foundation and gaps in specific platforms or technologies are
encouraged to apply.
• Networking fundamentals: IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, managed switch
configuration (Araknis, Ubiquiti, Access Networks, or similar), wireless deployment, port
forwarding, static IP assignment, and remote access setup.
• AV signal flow: understanding of HDMI, HDBaseT, audio/video distribution, and control
platforms.

• Control system experience is a plus: hands-on work with Control4, Crestron, Lutron,
or Savant — at any level, from programming and configuration down to basic exposure.
We'll invest in your training for the rest.
• Ability to interpret system schematics, elevation drawings, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with structured cabling: Cat5e/Cat6/RG6/RG11 installation, termination, and
troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with service tools (meters, tone generators, crimpers, labelers, cable testers,
etc.).
• Capable of working independently to resolve time-sensitive issues on-site.
• Strong communication and documentation skills — both verbal and written.
• Bonus: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, or manufacturer certifications
(Control4, Lutron, Araknis, Ubiquiti UniFi, etc.).

Additional Requirements
• U.S. Citizen with a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Must pass a drug screen and background check.
• Able to lift 50–75 pounds, work on ladders, and access crawl spaces and attics.
• Detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and customer-service focused.
• Willingness to occasionally travel or work extended hours as needed.

What We Offer
• Structured cross-training path for IT professionals transitioning into AV — manufacturer
certifications supported by AVS.
• Company vehicle and fuel from shop to job sites.
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance (individual and family plans).
• 401(k) with match, PTO, and cell phone reimbursement.
• Monthly and quarterly team activities, plus tool reimbursement options.
• Fast-tracked growth for technicians who demonstrate skill, work ethic, and
professionalism.

Ready to Be the Expert Behind the Experience?
If you love solving technical problems, want hands-on field work instead of a desk, and want to
be the go-to expert that clients trust — whether you're coming from AV or from IT — we'd love
to have you on our team.

Position Details
Job Type: Full-time | Pay: $26.56–$50.85/hour | Schedule: Mon–Fri, overtime available |
Location: In person
Benefits: 401(k) with match, cell phone reimbursement, dental, health, and vision insurance,
paid time off.
