Job description

Job Title: Maintenance / Engine Test Technician
Location: Richmond, VA (Training may include Ashland, VA)
Schedule: 12-hour shifts (Day or Night)
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire


Job Overview:
A leading research and development organization in the petroleum and automotive testing space is seeking Maintenance Technicians to support engine and mechanical testing operations. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on mechanical experience who are interested in working in a lab-based R&D environment.

You will play a key role in running controlled engine test cycles, collecting data, and ensuring equipment is operating efficiently to support performance validation efforts.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and initiate engine and mechanical test cycles
  • Monitor ongoing tests and accurately record performance data
  • Collect samples and document key readings throughout testing
  • Troubleshoot interruptions and perform basic equipment maintenance
  • Reset, calibrate, and prepare testing equipment between cycles
  • Assist with engine teardown, cleaning, and parts washing
  • Participate in daily safety and planning meetings


Typical Work Breakdown:

  • 60% monitoring tests and collecting data
  • 20% setting up and initiating tests
  • 20% teardown, cleaning, and equipment prep


Training & Schedule:

  • First 8–12 weeks: rotating shifts and locations (Richmond & Ashland)
  • After training: assigned to a consistent shift
  • Shift Options:
    • 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
    • 11:00 PM – 11:00 AM
  • Schedule: Sunday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Saturday
