Job description

Yamaha is seeking to fill a Technical Writer II for our facility in Kennesaw, GA. The position will support Marine Service Information projects by writing and editing literature to help create finished publications for outboard, WaveRunner, and sport boat product lines. Position will ensure the literature is useful, accurate, timely, and professional for target audiences, while also facilitating external and internal communications and announcements. This position will maintain the format and quality that is consistent with existing Yamaha publications.

What you'll be doing:

  • Coordinate, write, and edit articles for our bi-monthly magazine publication, On Board, while also collecting images to support and enhance content.
  • Edit YMC-produced content for grammar, punctuation, and clarity. Work with Technical Coordinators and assist with the proofing process and the coordination of distributing Info Exchanges and Technical Bulletins.
  • Lead and coordinate publication and communication content edits while working closely with Tech Pubs and other layout/graphic designers.
  • Coordinate print and distribution of all printed Marine Service publications while ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Maintain and provide distribution lists to appropriate parties and match distribution methods with intended audience.
  • Manage electronic Marine Service publications and communication content on various Yamaha Business systems, specifically YMBS and YDS. Serve as Admin to post timely messages on appropriate message boards and ensure metadata is up-to-date for improved searchability.
  • Assist with additional Marine Service Information projects where writing, editing, and proofreading is needed, such as: Marine Rigging Guide, Tune-Up Spec Books, Warranty Handbook, instructor-led course books, etc.
  • Maintain Master LIT List and work closely with Crestec for a complete and accurate list of owner's manuals, service manuals, and accessory guides for outboards, WaveRunners, and sport boats are available on YMBS/YDS and consumer websites.
  • Knowledge of Adobe products (InDesign and PhotoShop) would be a plus.
  • Must have strong knowledge of print and production process.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong inter-personal skills and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and lead medium to large publication projects.
  • Technical background in Marine, automotive, or other engine-powered industry would be a plus.

What you need to be successful:

  • BA degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or other equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook) and layout /publication programs.
  • Three (3) years' of Technical Writing experience.
