Privately owned, fiercely customer-focused, and driven by our values, we continue to lead industries and transform lives through sound.
Today, Bose Corporation is entering an exciting new era. Across multiple global Business Units and Global Functions, we are shaping the future of audio technology, automotive, luxury, and premium experiences. We invite you to join us in this transformation.
Job Description
At Bose, we are passionate about creating experiences that help people feel more, do more, and be more. As a Principal Software Engineer - Software Architecture, you will play a key technical leadership role in defining the future software architecture for Bose's Automotive Technology portfolio.
The automotive industry is rapidly moving toward software-defined vehicles, centralized compute, reusable software platforms, and shorter development cycles. Bose is evolving our software architecture to make differentiated audio technologies easier to integrate, portable across hardware and software environments, and scalable across customers, vehicle platforms, and product generations.
This is a Principal-level individual contributor role for an exceptional software architect who combines deep technical expertise, systems thinking, and strong technical leadership. You will set long-term architectural direction while remaining close enough to the technology to solve difficult engineering problems and turn strategy into scalable solutions.
Hybrid Working Environment: 3-days/week on-site presence is required.
Responsibilities
  • Define and drive the software architecture and technical strategy for the future Auto Tech portfolio, spanning multiple products, customers, platforms, and product generations.
  • Architect scalable, modular, and configurable software platforms that enable Bose audio technologies to operate across diverse automotive compute, operating system, and vehicle environments.
  • Establish the architectural foundations, abstractions, and interfaces needed to move from customized integrations toward increasingly portable, reusable, and low-friction software solutions.
  • Partner with audio, acoustics, signal processing, and ML/AI teams to translate differentiated Bose technologies into scalable, production-ready capabilities and enable future applications of AI/ML in tuning, optimization, prediction, and personalization.
  • Anticipate changes in software-defined vehicles and the automotive technology ecosystem and translate them into Bose platform and technology direction.
  • Engage with OEMs and ecosystem partners to understand emerging architectures, influence technical decisions, and ensure Bose solutions integrate effectively into future vehicle platforms.
  • Lead critical cross-functional architecture decisions, resolve complex technical challenges, and mentor senior engineers and architects across the organization.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with a demonstrated track record of architecting and delivering complex embedded or software platforms at scale.
  • Experience defining architectures that span multiple products, customers, hardware targets, or product generations.
  • Deep expertise in software architecture and platform design, including modularity, abstraction, APIs and interfaces, configurability, portability, extensibility, reuse, and maintainability.
  • Strong technical depth in embedded and distributed systems and experience with automotive or similarly complex hardware/software ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated ability to make consequential technical decisions under ambiguity and lead complex initiatives through influence across organizational boundaries.
  • Strong software development foundation with the ability to move effectively between portfolio-level architecture and implementation-level technical discussions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, with the technical credibility to influence senior engineers, leaders, customers, and technology partners.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Experience architecting production systems incorporating machine learning, AI, optimization, or other data-driven technologies, particularly in embedded or edge environments.
  • Knowledge of audio signal processing, acoustics, psychoacoustics, perceptual audio, or audio system tuning.
  • Experience applying ML/AI to audio, acoustics, signal processing, perception, optimization, or other physical systems.
  • Knowledge of modern automotive software environments, including technologies such as Android Automotive, hypervisors, SoCs, DSPs, middleware, and hardware abstraction.
  • Automotive audio, infotainment, or software-defined vehicle experience.
  • Experience with automotive SoCs and DSP platforms such as Qualcomm Snapdragon and Analog Devices.
  • Experience working directly with automotive OEMs, semiconductor providers, or other automotive ecosystem partners.
