Lead Software Engineer Java (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Our client, a large enterprise organization undergoing continued digital transformation, is seeking a Technical Lead Application Development to help design and deliver modern, scalable applications that support core business operations and customer-facing platforms.

This role will lead technical design, development quality, and engineering best practices across multiple initiatives. The ideal candidate is both a strong hands-on engineer and a technical leader who can guide teams, influence architecture, and collaborate across business and IT stakeholders.

You ll work closely with architecture, delivery, QA, and product teams to deliver highly available applications built in cloud-native environments and integrated with enterprise systems.

This role will be on site 4 days per week in White Plains and will require an on site interview.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Solution Design

  • Lead technical design, architecture, and code quality across one or more development initiatives.
  • Produce scalable, highly available solution designs for mission-critical applications.
  • Partner with architecture and engineering leadership to align technology strategy with business priorities.
  • Establish development standards, best practices, and reusable technical patterns.

Application Development

  • Design, develop, and support modern applications using Java, microservices, and API-driven architectures.
  • Build and integrate RESTful web services and enterprise applications.
  • Support applications running in cloud environments, including AWS-based architectures.
  • Work across both modern cloud platforms and existing enterprise systems/databases.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with project managers on estimates, planning, and delivery timelines.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to support functional, integration, and performance testing.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to ensure successful application deployment and production support.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for stakeholders across IT and business teams.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor software engineers while supporting delivery execution.
  • Help staff projects and coordinate work across internal teams, contractors, and third-party resources.
  • Promote strong engineering practices, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Required Experience
  • 8+ years of software development experience with Java, including increasing technical responsibility.
  • Experience leading development teams of 3+ engineers.
  • Strong experience designing scalable, highly available enterprise systems.
  • Expertise building REST APIs, microservices, and multi-tier applications.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and data modeling.
  • Experience designing and integrating enterprise applications.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid development environments.
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience building applications in AWS or cloud-native environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise customer-facing or transactional platforms.
  • Experience in industries such as retail, ecommerce, financial services, automotive, or similar high-volume environments.
