Job Summary
The Application Engineer manages development of turbochargers for various OEM customers. The Application Engineer will work with the Engineering Manager and Sr. Application Engineer by supporting activities within the Turbo Engineering Department in alignment with company goals and objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Keep track of multiple projects and priorities of each.
• Assist with company goals and objectives
• Communicate with customers and determine the appropriate design scheme based on the high technical background and experience
• Communicate with MHIET engineer and recommend appropriate designing direction in considering customer's demand
• Comprehends typical business procedure in turbocharger development and right/responsibility/support relationship among each section of company.
• Lead cross functional development team to ensure schedules are maintained for responsible projects.
• Visit customer locations to provide technical support.
• Assist validation testing and provide first had assessment of technical issues.
• Create engineering reports and investigation reports.
• Co-ordinate products launch activities with mother/sister companies (MHIET/MTA, MTEE, SMTC) utilizing APQP principles.
• Communicate design data from the local databases with MHIET Japan to the customers using such tools as e-mail and customer specified software.
• Co-ordinate post test evaluation of development turbocharger samples.
• Perform teardown inspection and measurement at the MTEA facility and document the findings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by MTEA Management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Theoretical understanding of internal combustion engine air handling and control systems.
• 5 years automotive Tier 1 supplier or powertrain OEM experience.
• 3 years project management experience.
• Familiarity with IATF16949 quality control principles.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• 1D/3D simulation experience / knowledge.
• GD&T, DFSS, Turbocharger product specific training.
• CAD experience a plus.
• Electrical Engineering experience / knowledge a plus.
• Hands on mechanical experience a plus.
• Japanese language skill a plus.
• Some business travel as needed.
• Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Must be able to occasionally move up to 15lbs.
• Ability to sit throughout the workday.
