Job DescriptionOverview

As part of ATKINSRealis' growing Rail, Transit Systems and Telecoms practice, the Bus Transit Engineer contributes specialized technical expertise to support public transit agencies across Canada and internationally. Reporting to the National Lead, Bus Transit engineering, the Bus Transit engineer supports ATKINSRealis' capabilities in bus systems engineering, zeroemission fleet technologies, intelligent transportation systems, charging facilities, and depot modernization.

The engineer plays a key role in delivering consulting mandates, feasibility studies, detailed designs, and implementation support for clients seeking to improve the performance, reliability, and sustainability of their bus networks. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, the Bus Transit Engineer collaborates with experts in systems engineering, infrastructure design, electrical engineering, rolling stock, operations planning, and project management.

Your role
  • Engineering and Technical expertise: Supports technical designs, specifications, integration on bus-related projects, including bus fleets, on-board systems, charging infrastructure, maintenance operations.
  • Consulting and client support: Participate in multidisciplinary project teams, delivering studies, conceptual designs, and implementation strategies for major transit clients.
  • Infrastructure and client integration: Contribute to the planning and design of bus depots, charging infrastructures, BRT corridors, systems requirements, maintenance facilities, and operational support systems.
  • Project delivery and quality assurance: Support or lead tasks within multidisciplinary engineering projects, contributing to schedules, risk reviews, cost estimates, and quality control. Participate in design reviews, ensure compliance with standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable codes (CSA, APTA, TSBC, NFPA, federal and provincial guidelines).
  • Innovation and capability development: Monitor emerging industry trends and advise internal teams and clients on innovative technologies and best practices. Support the development of internal tools, methodologies, and technical standards that enhance ATKINSRealis' excellence in transit engineering. Contribute to proposals, business development activities, and thought leadership to expand the firm's presence in the Canadian transit market.
About you
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, automotive engineering or related field.
  • P. Eng. license in a Canadian province
  • 10+ years of experience in transit infrastructure and systems, with a focus on bus transit
  • Experience in consulting, project delivery, or client advisory services is an asset
  • Good understanding of bus systems, including civil, mechanical, electrical, O&M, as well as the Canadian transit regulations and standards.

Expected compensation for this role is between $117,200 - $161,200 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
