Sales Engineer -- Custom Automation, CNC & Robotics

Sales Engineer -- Custom Automation, CNC & Robotics

Cubic Machinery Inc

Chino, CA • On-site

Full-time

Job description

## About Cubic Machinery
Cubic Machinery delivers custom manufacturing solutions through a direct-sales model. We combine CNC equipment, robotics, and turnkey automation to solve real production problems in the field. This is not catalog sales and it is not transactional order-taking. Our sales team wins by understanding the customer’s process, identifying the real constraint, and driving an engineered solution from first conversation to final handoff.
## Role Summary
This role is for a high-potential sales engineer who wants to build real technical sales capability. You will own customer opportunities end to end: prospecting, discovery, solution development, quoting, follow-up, negotiation, and internal coordination. You do not need to come in as the finished product. You do need the ability to learn quickly, operate with precision, and handle a demanding, high-accountability environment.
## What You’ll Do
### Own a direct-sales pipeline
Prospect, qualify, advance, and close opportunities with disciplined follow-up and strong CRM hygiene.
### Run consultative discovery
Learn the customer’s process deeply enough to identify pain points in cycle time, labor, quality, uptime, footprint, and operator flow.
### Sell engineered solutions, not part numbers
Work with engineering to turn customer requirements into scopes, assumptions, concepts, and commercially sound proposals.
### Drive proposal quality and speed
Coordinate pricing, BOM inputs, lead times, and scope boundaries so proposals are accurate, clear, and professionally structured.
### Operate with urgency and accountability
Push deals forward, close loops internally, and maintain clean handoffs to operations, service, and purchasing.
### Use AI as a force multiplier
Use tools such as Claude or Gemini to accelerate research, account prep, call summaries, proposal drafting, and internal coordination without lowering standards.
## What Success Looks Like
- Opportunities are qualified correctly and moved forward with urgency.
- Customer needs are translated into clear internal action items.
- Proposals are accurate, well-scoped, and delivered fast.
- Follow-up is disciplined and reliable.
- Wins come from technical understanding, responsiveness, and execution.
- Closed jobs transition cleanly to operations with minimal downstream surprises.
## What We’re Looking For
### Required
- Strong learning ability and technical curiosity.
- Clear communication and professional customer presence.
- High attention to detail in documentation, quoting, and follow-up.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and solving nonstandard customer problems.
- Strong ownership mindset and bias for action.
- Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve speed and work quality.
### Preferred
- Experience in technical sales, industrial sales, manufacturing, CNC, automation, robotics, or applications support.
- Experience coordinating with engineering or operations on custom scopes.
- Familiarity with quoting, BOM structure, lead times, Incoterms, or project handoff discipline.
### Not Required
- Prior experience selling the exact product line.
- Traditional engineering pedigree.
- Commodity-sales background.
We care more about learnability, discipline, problem-solving, and execution than about having a perfect résumé match.
## How to Apply
Send your resume and a short note answering:
1. Describe a deal or project you owned from start to finish.
2. Describe a time you had to understand a technical problem before proposing a solution.
3. Show how you use AI tools to improve throughput, clarity, or response time in your work.
