We have been able to meet the needs of our customers with a steady, dependable and economical supply of high-quality railroad industry products. As McConway is the original designers of the first standard automatic coupler, continued innovation and craftsmanship have and has led to a product line that includes every ARR approved coupler as well as custom coupler solutions, which are all proudly cast in the US.

Standard Forged is looking for an Automation/Robotics Engineer. In this position you will be responsible for designing, testing, and troubleshooting automated PLC and robotic processes. These support services will typically be performed alongside vendors and the broader maintenance team.

Location: Mckees Rocks, PA

What you’ll do:

  • Design, programming, implementation, and testing support for new Control System/Automation projects within our current facility
  • Participate in capital projects, new installations, testing, and modernization projects for new PLC and robotic systems.
  • Provide front-line technical support, problem-solving, and maintenance support for all the automated manufacturing systems.
  • Participate in root cause analysis, incident investigations and troubleshooting of control issues
  • Note:Will require periodic on-call support for 24/7 manufacturing environment
  • Implement modifications/updates and continuous process improvement solutions for existing automated equipment and stand-alone control systems.
  • Implementation of document updates for design specification, SOPs, operating standards, engineering documents, drawings, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years of experience in electrical maintenance and/or robotics and automation, ideally in an industrial setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of controls systems governed by platforms such as Allen Bradley CompactLogix, ControlLogix, Siemens Step 7, ABB Robotic, Honeywell and Hart Protocol.
  • Understanding of network communication protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet, Profibus, control net, profinet, DeviceNet, Modbus and Rs232
  • Ability to build and implement control applications through PLC programming and HMI graphic design
  • Works well with others, within a team and takes accountability
  • Result driven and self-motivated
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and presentation)
  • Organized, with strong computer literacy such as MS office applications, inventor, AutoCAD etc.
  • Strong ability to read Electrical Drawings, Schematics, Single Line Diagrams and P&ID which depict the electrical theory, operation, and control of a system
  • Strong understanding of industrial control
  • Comfortable with 24/7 manufacturing environment

Education:

  • Equivalent Combination of education an experience may be considered

Working Conditions:

  • Work environment includes plant, warehouse, production and non-production areas and plant grounds.
  • This position may require work/maintenance coverage beyond the normal hours, shift, and on weekends/holidays
  • Ability to tolerate both high and low temperatures, loud noises typical of a manufacturing plant
