Job description

Purpose:
This isn't a back-office quality role. It's an opportunity to directly influence the products customers bring into their homes - from supplier selection and testing protocols to product performance and long-term customer satisfaction. As a Quality Engineer, you'll partner across merchandising, sourcing, supply chain, and suppliers to solve problems before they reach the customer, improve product performance, and help drive smarter business decisions across a fast-growing retail organization.
You'll own categories, influence supplier strategy, and create systems that improve quality, reduce claims, and strengthen the business at scale.
Your Day Consists Of
  • Partnering with suppliers, merchants, and sourcing teams to ensure products meet quality, safety, and performance standards before launch
  • Creating and managing testing protocols, inspections, scorecards, and quality documentation across assigned product categories
  • Investigating field quality issues, leading root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions that prevent repeat problems
  • Evaluating supplier performance data and identifying opportunities to improve quality, consistency, and operational efficiency
  • Coordinating product testing, factory audits, certifications, and inspections with third-party partners and global vendors
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Legal, Inventory Management, and Merchandising to proactively solve quality challenges

You'll Be Successful With
  • Experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, retail quality, or product testing environments
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust across teams, suppliers, and external partners
  • An analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and confidence working through complex product or process issues
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and collaboration matters
  • A degree in Engineering, Science, Business, or another technical field preferred
  • Experience with flooring, hardlines, manufacturing, or retail product categories is highly valued

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a Technical Field preferred
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience (preferably in Retail or Manufacturing)
  • Knowledge of supplier qualification processes and supplier performance metrics preferred
  • Understanding of statistical methods, quality tools and methodologies preferred
  • Supplier Quality background and experience preferred
  • Must be analytical, detail oriented and highly organized
  • Possess good process experience, judgment, and the ability to recognize key problems
  • A demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within the company, as well as globally with suppliers and 3rd party firms. Strong collaboration skills with both local and international teams.
  • Experience working with international vendors preferred
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and work well under pressure
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work independently, within a team across all levels and diverse cultures, and the ability to lead team projects
  • Intermediate to advanced level Microsoft Suite skills (especially Excel)

Essential Job Functions:
  • Develop internal and external communications including FAQs, associate training materials, and supplier communications
  • Develop and manage policies and standard operating procedures (SOP) relating to quality assurance
  • Possess the enhanced process experience/judgment and the ability to recognize key problems before they become major issues. Capable of recognizing opportunities that translate to bottom-line improvement.
  • Monitor supplier performance and alert stakeholders of any non-compliance, respond promptly to detected offenses, develop corrective action plans and report findings via established channels
  • Utilize scorecards to track key vendor and 3rd party service provider performance metrics
  • Onboard new suppliers in accordance with F&D policies and procedures
  • Test and inspect new product and validate sales driving attributes
  • Other areas of focus will be on Supplier Risk Management and may include some or all of the following audits, inspections and activities to be performed by selected third parties:
    • Environmental Compliance Audits
    • Factory Audits
    • Production, Pre-Shipment and Container Loading Inspections
    • Product Testing
    • Lab Testing, Certifications, Recordkeeping Procedures and Other Best Practices
  • This position will own at least one department in the business and will be responsible for creating and implementing testing protocols for product performance which can ultimately determine viability of a product and have influence over whether or not Merchants move forward with the product.
  • This position will use self-created testing protocols as well as first piece inspection results to work with Merchandising to determine if changes should be made to the product to reduce and prevent customer claims, ultimately resulting in a positive financial impact for the business.
  • This position will have autonomy to budget for such inspections, testing etc.
  • The position will be expected to strategically conceptualize and create process improvements for the department which will positively impact efficiencies to the business.
  • This position will be expected to contribute to the Global Sourcing Survey in the Supplier Scorecard, which ultimately impacts a suppliers overall score which Merchants use to determine supplier business strategies
  • This position will be responsible for handling CAPA's & Root Cause analysis for field quality issues, which helps suppliers put in systematic changes and thus reduces further impacts to the business.
