What is an automation QA?

Automation QA engineers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks and scripts to ensure the quality of software applications. They focus on using tools and programming languages to automate repetitive testing tasks, identify bugs, and verify that new software releases meet requirements. By automating tests, they help teams deliver reliable software faster and with fewer manual errors. Automation QA engineers often collaborate closely with developers and manual testers as part of the quality assurance process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an automation QA?

To thrive as an Automation QA, you need a solid understanding of software testing principles, scripting languages (such as Python, Java, or JavaScript), and experience with automation frameworks, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools like Selenium, Appium, Jenkins, and version control systems, as well as certifications like ISTQB, are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help Automation QAs identify issues, collaborate with developers, and ensure high-quality releases. These competencies are essential for efficiently detecting defects, maintaining test coverage, and supporting the continuous delivery of reliable software products.

What are some common challenges automation QA engineers face when integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines?

Automation QA engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring test reliability in rapidly changing codebases, managing flaky tests, and maintaining synchronization between test scripts and evolving application features. Integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines requires careful test case selection to prevent slowdowns and false positives that can disrupt deployments. Close collaboration with developers and DevOps teams is essential to quickly resolve issues, update test environments, and continuously improve test coverage as part of the software delivery process.

What is the difference between Automation Qa vs Manual Tester?

AspectAutomation QaManual Tester
CredentialsTypically requires knowledge of automation tools (e.g., Selenium, TestComplete), scripting languages, and testing frameworksFocuses on testing techniques, test case design, and may require basic testing certifications
Work EnvironmentWorks with automation scripts, testing tools, and sometimes programming environmentsPerforms test execution manually, often in a test lab or on various devices
Industry UsageCommon in organizations adopting automated testing processes for efficiencyWidely used in traditional testing roles and projects requiring exploratory testing

Automation Qa professionals focus on developing and maintaining automated test scripts to increase testing efficiency, while Manual Testers execute test cases manually to identify issues without automation. Both roles are essential, but Automation Qas are more involved with scripting and automation tools, whereas Manual Testers emphasize test execution and exploratory testing.

Job description

QA Engineer

Location: Hybrid - Boca Raton, FL (in-office Tuesdays and Thursdays)

Department: Technology

Reports to: Director of Technology

About Lendzi

Lendzi is a fast-growing fintech company specializing in small business lending. Our technology team is building the platform, integrations, and automation that power our lending operations end to end. We move quickly, ship often, and hold a high bar for quality.

About the Role

We are looking for a QA Engineer to own quality across our applications, integrations, and internal systems. You will design and execute test plans for new features, verify bug fixes, validate third-party and partner integrations, and help us build a more automated, repeatable QA practice as the platform scales. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: your sign-off is what stands between a release and production.

What You'll Do

  • Design, document, and execute test plans and test cases for web applications, APIs, and CRM-driven workflows
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and UAT testing across releases
  • Validate partner and vendor integrations end to end, including API request/response verification, data mapping, and lead routing logic
  • Test telephony, messaging, and automation workflows (dialer configurations, notification systems, scheduled jobs)
  • Log, prioritize, and track defects in Jira with clear reproduction steps; verify fixes through QA and into deployment
  • Partner closely with engineers during development to catch issues early, not just at the end
  • Build and maintain lightweight test automation where it adds value (API tests, smoke tests, regression suites)
  • Maintain QA documentation in Confluence, including test plans, runbooks, and release checklists
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate test planning, test case generation, and automation development

What We're Looking For

  • 3-5 years of hands-on QA experience testing web applications and APIs
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and QA's role within Agile/Scrum teams
  • Experience testing REST APIs using tools like Postman or similar
  • Proficiency with Jira (or equivalent) for defect tracking and sprint workflows
  • Ability to write clear, thorough, reproducible bug reports and test documentation
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the judgment to know what to test deeply versus what to smoke test
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift and you manage your own queue

Nice to Have

  • Experience with test automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or API-level automation)
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms (Zoho, Salesforce, or HubSpot), especially workflow and automation testing
  • Exposure to fintech, lending, or another regulated industry
  • Basic SQL for data validation
  • Experience testing telephony or contact center platforms (Five9, Twilio, or similar)
  • Experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) to accelerate test case generation, test data creation, or automation scripting

Why Lendzi

  • Direct impact: small team, real ownership, your work ships and matters
  • Growth: we are building our technology organization from the ground up, and early team members grow with it
  • Performance bonuses awarded throughout the year
  • Hybrid schedule with a collaborative in-office culture on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Boca Raton
