Description
Rack & Riddle Custom Wine Services, the #1 custom sparkling wine producer in the United States, is seeking to add a Compliance Manager to our team.
Reporting to the Vice President of Accounting, the Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring full regulatory compliance across all aspects of winery operations, including production, labeling, distribution, and sales. This role requires deep knowledge of federal, state, and international wine regulations, particularly those governed by the TTB, FDA, and state alcohol beverage control boards. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader who can navigate complex regulatory landscapes while supporting business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs aligned with TTB and state/local regulations by internally centralizing all aspects of winery compliance.
• Lead the compliance review and approval process for new customers, products, brands, and packaging by partnering with cross-functional teams to define regulatory requirements, establish clear ownership, standardize submission and communication processes, ensure complete and accurate information, and continuously improve workflows through technology and automation to reduce cycle times and enhance the customer experience.
  • Oversee all aspects of wine labeling, formula approvals, COLAs, and brand registrations.
  • Compile and distribute monthly compliance reporting for service customers as required.
  • Accurately and timely prepare and submit required state and federal excise tax reports for all facilities, working closely with operations team to ensure transactions are also posted accurately and timely.
  • Prepare and submit CA state CRV reporting requirements, serving as subject matter expert for internal key stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage compliance with Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), wholesale, and export shipping laws.
  • Participate in new product development, serving as a key advisory to provide regulatory guidance as well as execution.
  • Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate compliance gaps.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and industry associations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records for production, inventory, and tax reporting.
  • Collaborate with winemaking, operations, legal, and sales teams to ensure compliance is integrated into all business processes.
  • Train and mentor staff on compliance best practices and regulatory updates.
  • Lead responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, and inspections.
  • Stay current on changes in laws and regulations affecting the wine industry and proactively adjust policies and procedures.

• Responsible for personnel management, hiring, training, development, oversight, evaluations and discipline of the Client Service & Compliance Specialist.
• Complete special projects as directed.
• Other tasks assigned by Management.
Requirements:
A successful candidate's background will include:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in winery or alcohol beverage compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of TTB regulations, state ABC laws, and international export requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with compliance software and ERP systems (e.g., Vintrace, NetSuite, ShipCompliant or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
  • Capable of managing SOP documentation, regulatory compliance, and implementing improvements across departments.
