Job description

The SSD (sub-same day) Design Engineering team is searching for an innovative, solutions-oriented design engineer to spearhead new initiatives and develop the next generation of world-class industrial building designs.
Embrace the opportunity to solve complex problems with boundless innovation. Utilize your analytical and systems design expertise to leverage advanced automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and robotics.
We seek resourceful engineers who are critical thinkers and excel in cross-functional collaboration. In this role, you will work closely with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our delivery stations

Your projects will be a variety of delivery station concepts and template-based design solutions that will enhance the effectiveness of Amazon's last mile network.
You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment.
Ability to travel 25% to interact with internal and external business, operational and technical leaders.
Key job responsibilities
Create detailed 2D CAD drawings of delivery station layouts, integrating conveyor systems, sorting equipment, and automation solutions based on operational requirements and capacity targets.
Lead and coordinate design efforts to develop optimal last-mile delivery station solutions, incorporating advanced material handling equipment, automation technologies, and modular systems.
Develop and present comprehensive technical documents that detail the design specifications, engineering rationale, and how the project aligns with the business goals and requirements.
Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors and stakeholders to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
Translate strategic visions into detailed roadmaps and specific technical solutions, communicating complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Continuously refine and iterate designs based on feedback, operational data, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency and scalability.
Ensure that all design solutions meet safety standards, operational requirements, and sustainability goals while optimizing for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Stay current with the latest CAD technologies and best practices in industrial design to ensure optimal use of design tools and methodologies.
Contribute to the development of design standards and best practices within the organization.
A day in the life
A typical day involves diving into CAD software to create and refine delivery station layouts. You'll analyze high-level demand projections to inform design decisions, ensuring future scalability. Collaborating with operations teams, you'll translate workflow needs into practical designs

Expect to juggle multiple projects, participating in design review meetings and coordinating with architects and civil engineering on detail drawings. You'll troubleshoot design challenges, conduct capacity analyses, and stay updated on industry innovations. The role demands a balance of analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, technical expertise, and effective communication to meet operational goals and deadlines.
About the team
The Sub Same Day (SSD) Engineering Organization's mission is to increase the SSD business capabilities for wider selection and for all rural and urban customers alike

We design and launch SSD solutions through innovation to optimize network capacity, adapt to evolving customer needs based on their unique conditions, and integrate seamlessly with new initiatives. Through our data-driven approach and partnerships with business, technology, design, and construction teams, we build a SSD network that delights customers and drives long-term growth. If you are in the relentless pursuit of elevating the customer experience, value collaboration with cross-functional teams, and enjoy ambiguity to find solutions, you will find our team to be quite an AMAZING place to work!.
